I'm wondering if anyone knows where to get lactobacillus acidophilus in BKK? Back in the U.S. it's usually found in health food stores in powder-filled capsules or just the powder in a sachet. I've asked around at pharmacies, but no one seems to know what I'm talking about.
I know there's Yakult drinks, but they are a different strain of bacteria, and I'm looking for the specific properties of the acidophilus.
I've looked for it for most od the 2 1/2 years that I've lived in Bangkok to no avail. Not even Amway Thailand has it, but Amway Malaysia sells it. I have no idea why. There is a good brand of all natural yougurt that you can find in places like Villa Market and Lemon Farm. The brand name is Natural and it comes in a see-through plastic container.
What are the benefits of this stuff? I have heard of it, but I have no idea why people take it.

I just had a course of antibiotics, which kill off not only all the bad bacteria, but also all the good bacteria naturally found in the intestinal and urinary tracts. There are thousands of different strains, but the most research I have seen has been on the acidophilus.
"Lactobacilli acidophilus are small organisms that stop the growth of harmful bacteria and increase resistance to infections. The active culture can be found in some yogurts and available in supplemental liquid, powder or tablet form. L. acidophilus is part of the natural flora of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts. Lactobacillus acidophilus has been used to treat Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and yeast infections for decades."
Is the Natural yogurt sweetened? I've read that live yogurt is not effective if it is.
Thanks Penguin, It seems to make sense. I am rarely ill so I guess I dont need it. Its been 10 years since I have had any antibiotics.
Sorry to dig up an old thread but does anyone have more up-to-date info. on this subject? Also, I'm wondering whether those "yoghurt drinks" they sell everywhere in Thailand actually contain any live bacteria or are just sweetened drinks to rot teeth and damage health as I suspect them to be.
YOu just answered your own question.
^ Really? That must make me more clever than I thought. What was the answer again?
Actually, I was more interested in probiotic tablets than the sweetened drinks. Nevertheless any advice is welcomed.
OP...I think you'll have to order it in from overseas.
Extremely unlikely you'll find anything like that in Thailand. I've never seen it.
I finally found it for sale in Sukhumvit. Persistence pays off in the end...
Does probiotics balance the good and bad bacteria in our intestinal tract? Why can't we have good bacteria only in our system? Do we need the bad bacteria?
If you want to advertise contact LDMA.
Where exactl in Sukhumvit was that ?? I need some also
