Thai government fitness centre, Ekkamai

Many activities can be had here, at a very small cost and on a drop-in basis, ie no membership costs and cards to be held.

They have a large 30 metre swimming pool, and I think on men Speedo type shorts are preferred, as I was refused entry wearing my swimming shorts. "Those ok for beach" I was told.

The running circuit is 400 metres, and it's not a running track but you run round the entire complex block.

They have a fully equipped weights and fitness room which is spacious, well laid out and has the distinction of being free of prowling homosexual men trying to "cruise" you.

They have two decent tennis courts, which seem to be permanently occupied, I assume booking ahead is the key to securing one of the courts. Balls and raquets provided.

They also have several table tennis tables, a rock climbing thingy, several sit up frames and a basic boxing area as well as another room with two large punchbags.

There is also a concrete football field which is mostly occupied by either local schoolboys trying to copy Christiano Ronaldo, or the BTS staff cup, in which train drivers, ticket office staff, signal workers and security guards, all BTS staff play their league games. Riveting stuff.

Refreshments and food available, of course.

Don't expect a California Wow! style environment. If you wanna be in air conditioned corporate surroundings surrounded by flabby arsed people who have been conned into paying the extortionat charges they ask per month, then go there.
