Re: Running For Beginners
Are you running nat?
Or is that special someone giving you enough of a workout?

No, I'm home alone, don't you remember? You could chase me and I could run away.

Re: Running For Beginners
I have to confess, I haven't started yet. We've had tons of rain here. I'm going to BKK tonight for 10 days, and I will do some there.

It will also bugger up the hip joints as they have to push much harder to get a purchase. I know - I tried it. Grass is MUCH better until you've strengthened your legs and joints, then go on harder surfaces.
Sand is only for when you have much stronger legs and joints

Re: Running For Beginners
With the iffy weather here and my ever-changing work schedule, I'm going to go with indoor running and circuit-training at a gym. Thanks for all the tips, I'll use them.

Re: Running For Beginners
Hey Nat,
Consider yoga as an alternative to running (or a supplement). I used to run treadmill one hour per day (about 10 km) and found it was effective to drop some pounds, but really hard on the body. Lots of aches and pains. I am sure someone will come on and say that if shoes are proper fit, and warm up correctly, etc. you can run every day without pain, but I am sceptical.
Consider an hour a day of yoga as an alternative, especially hot yoga if you can find a studio. I think that if you do it 3-4 times a week for a month, you will notice a remarkable change in your body. It is very challenging during the practice, but you leave the studio feeling relaxed and energized, stronger and more flexible.
Good luck whatever exercise plan you choose. I think the key is to find something you enjoy enough to do regularly several times a week.

Re: Running For Beginners
Thanks, KhunGary. I'm joining a gym tomorrow, so I'll do the cardio and weighs there. I have a good yoga DVD, so I'll so that a couple of times a week.

What about Chondrotin/Glucosamine supplements?
I have been running consistantly. One problem I just solved is that my right calf/ankle use to cramp up on me whenever I go running. I found out that I was actually stepping onto my toes instead of my heal (my right-side is slightly retarded! ). Now I am stepping correctly and have drastically reduced the cramping. So, Nat, make sure you use good technique .
