Re: Has anyone purchased a new pair of glasses lately?

I wandered around Fashion Island and came across a very small seemingly 'one person' kind of shop called EYES-STYLE.

He gave me a very thorough eye test (turned out my old specs were next to useless).

When it came to choosing frames, I like the slim gold-rimmed kind. He had a few pairs for around 850 baht and I ordered one of them. He then showed me a very good pair complete with magnetic clip on tinted lenses.

I nearly had a fit when I saw the price - nearly 6,000 baht but then he said 'No - all reduce'.

Turned out that there was a 40% discount on the price. I liked them and bought them too.

Not sure how much everything was but I think that the eye test was around 100 baht or so.

I've looked at the prices in some of the larger, glitzier places and got the impression that you're paying for the name.

I'm perfectly happy with the two pairs I've got and will probably go back there as and when I need anotherr pair.

Top Charoen. They virtually have a monopoly and are Thai Chinese. (No idea why I mentioned that).

I paid 5.500. Frames and lenses, with the whatchamacallit transition lenses. They get darker in sunlight and lighter in dark places. Looking at them closely, they are glued together, not a coating. They told me 7 days, they called me 24 hours later. Use them for driving or watching tv.

The eye test was quick and to my chagrin, not very thorough. But good enough until I can get the catarat out.

    Dear Forum,

    How are you?

Recently I found my glasses weren't strong enough - reading glasses. I also like to wear sunglasses most of the time when I am out.

I went for an eye-test, I think Top Charoen, and it was clear that I just needed stronger reading glasses. I paid 3000 for reading glasses and sunglasses - bi-focal. I checked my prescription and went down the road and bought 4 pairs of reading glasses at 100 Baht each. So I have a pair of reading glasses everywhere I sit, and as I am forgetful I don't have to keep wandering round the house looking for glasses.

    Hope you are keeping well,
    All the Best
    Bill Z

I went to Top Charoen for a free eye test.
Walked out with the results and went to Mai Sai and bought 4 pairs of size 2.5 for a 100 baht.
Perfect and I have a small repair kit whenever something breaks.
    Beat that.

In China, you can go to any optometrist, and get your glasses cleaned/repaired/adjusted for FREE. Really amazes me-so if you lose a screw, nose holder etc, it gets repaired/replaced and cleaned and adjusted for FREE! My prescription glasses cost 180 RMB (720 baht) and a fold-up 2.0 pair (brilliant) cost 120 RMB (480 baht)

For those who are not picky, I got mine recently from Zenni Optical.
USD 8.95 (No anti-reflective coating, standard 1.57 mid index single vision - CR39 lens)+ taxes + 6.95 shipping to Toronto.
I dont know how much it will cost for shipping to Thailand.

I'm saving my $$$ for a prescription Persol with Transitions, mwahahaha!

I just got a new glasses perscription on Monday, after 4 years of wearing the same pair of glasses. They are fine 90% of the time, but the other 5-10% of the time, I can tell my eyes are having issues with the new lenses.
