Trying to abstain. If it wasn't for all the other shit in my life I wouldn't be so tempted to smoke (cigarrettes). If I only didn't get out of bed in the morning. If I just didn't drink coffee and beer and eat food and take an interest in women and have all these thoughts in my head. Why are all the things that kill me so easy to get and the few things that I really want/need so hard to find; or so hard to grasp even when they are right in front of me. Of course, ain't nothing like being able to breathe. But, what good is all that with pending motorbike accidents, bird flu, nuclear annahilation, environmental devastation, planet over population, WWIII (it can't be far away), alzheimer's, cancer, stroke, schizophrenia, gun shot wounds, global warming, the common cold, debt, lonliness (my old friend), AIDS, sleeplessness (it's the worst) and ...............................road rage. when you have road rage does a fag cool you anger more than a none smoker? Bollox.

Truth is all you're doing buy smoking is trying to feel like none smokers do all the time.
does it make you feel more content than a none smoker feels after you've eaten?

honestly, to any one who is thinking of quitting just ask yourself what is it doing for you exactly? nothing is the answer, by stopping smoking you have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
I might sound smug but i pity smokers now because i know how easy it is to stop and i know they, deep down, don't want to do what they're doing but can't see the wood for the trees. it's easy. just stop, that the top and bottom of it. Read Allen Karr's easy way to stop smoking, if you must, it will help you see how stupid smoking is (even if it has been written by a flat cap buffoon)!

3 years and counting.
Exactly like Erwin64.
30 odd years smoking 40 cigs a day and gave up trying to give up.
Read something on a related website, read up about Whyquit and persuaded my local pharmacy( Fascino) to stock Quomen.
I was dubious at first and a bit apprehensive( reading about the side effects of Zyban/Quomen) but persevered.
I have'nt smoked since.
So, thank you to all the people before me for publicing their efforts.
I hope someone can give up the fags by reading these few posts.

Wow, seemed it was a good idea after all to start this thread. Kenkannif, I hope you're still holding on when you read this. How are you doing it? Cold turkey? Quomem? ....?
About the side effects, again, I don't have side effects or they must be so minor I hardly notice them. Drinking lots of fruit juice, especially cranberry juice really helps for me too ...
Chok dee to all of you .... maybe by the end of the year we can hold our own smoke free ..eh..Nicotine free :-) congratulations party. You know, have a laugh, drink some beer, drink some more beer and start smoking again ..LOL sorry, just kidding.
ps ... My taste and smell improved a lot and even my night and morning coughing is gone ..

I was joshing Erwin...I have no real plans to quit anytime soon.

I do go 6 or so hours a night without one when I'm asleep!!!

ok, nice one.
Anyway, I received a lot of positive responses, so I guess there are still a lot of people who are looking for some help or info on how to stop smoking. Again, I can really recommend www.whyquit.com and a lot of links you can find there. There are no annoying ads, only facts.
By the way, my lady told me this morning it was so nice for her that I didn't wake her up all the time anymore because I'm not coughing anymore. She had gotten so used to it that she didn't realise it was because of my smoking. Now that I stopped smoking, the coughing has stopped also and she is really grateful for that. If I can believe my doctor there will be a lot more she will be grateful for :-)
