Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
I'm a week now. Cold turkey. A piece of cake. Really.

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
It really is easy this time too. I've bypassed all the usual NRT gubbins and haven't changed any factor of my day/lifestyle other than smoking.
Voila!

Two weeks today...in fact the first time I was reminded of smoking today was this thread.

Cold turkey sandwiches and a spot of cake are nice.
But then to finish it off with a cup of decent coffee and a fag.
We gotta keep ourselves civilized on these matters, eh.

No it bloody isn't especially when you're a twat like me that keeps hopping off and on the wagon....four weeks of bullshit withdrawal depression out of six is not cool. Even with the bloody gum. It doesn't matter how often you do it, that first week is always absolute hell.

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
The only bit I've found difficult is the comments other smokers make. After giving him a friendly warning the night before, I blew my top at one guy last night.
Try this, it's working for me: bypass the usual NRT products and/or Allan Carr type literature, and DON'T change any aspects of your daily/weekly routines other than to stop smoking.

That's part of Allen Carr's approach, as it happens.
Although personally I changed part of my routine - simply because I can't take being surrounded by smokers anymore.
After a couple of years getting a stinging sore throat I now mostly avoid bars unless open air or non smoking.
I don't know why, but I seem to more susceptible to sore throats and stinging eyes from passive smoking than people who have never smoked.
Do any other ex smokers find this?

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
^ I used to smoke, but I wasn't addicted. It was just a social thing, off and on for a year. At that time smoke didn't bother me much.
Now, if smoke gets in my eyes, then I get watery, and itchy eyes. I cough a lot for at least a day. There aren't many public places that you can smoke in Canada. Everyone smokes in Asia, it seems. In bars, restaurants, and in some buildings. It does not help with the pollution.

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
I smoked for 32 years, then quit. The nicotine patches are the best-great dreams with them on when you sleep!

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
Almost everyone in my family smoked when I was a kid.... 30 years ago. My mother smoked 2+ packs a day, she quit cold turkey. Today, only 1 aunt smokes.
Once the momentum swings, it really swings.

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?
Oh well, I've just lost another twat of a mate 'cause he thought it would be funny to bring smoking into the conversation.
They've all been given friendly warnings not to, but he was the second who ignored this advice.
