Stopped smoking .... so easy !?

Hi,

I know there have been some threads about this before, but I just want people to know. If it can help even just 1 person...it's been a good thread.

I started smoking cigarettes when I was 13. I am almost 43 now, so ... 30 years.
Tried to stop a few times before .... didn't work.
I've been using lots of other poisoning and addictive stuff but was also able to quit the habit when it was really needed .... just those cigarettes, I never managed to quit them.
At the moment I didn't smoke for 3 weeks, so I know, I still have a long way to go, but I never believed I would get where I am today.
And the strange thing is.... it was not even difficult!! I am not saying you should do it my way, or my way is the best or whatever, ... no, I just want you to know how I did it!

1) Prepared myself by reading http://whyquit.com/ (!!! )
2) Started to take Zyban 2 weeks in advance
- In Thailand sold under the name Quomem -
3) After two weeks I just stopped.

Of course I felt the urge to smoke sometimes, but actually quit seldom. The medicine took away my lust for cigarettes and the web site with very good articles about the effects of nicotine helps me to stay motivated.

I hope this may help some of you out there who would also like to quit.
Actually, all you have to do is ..... NTAP
( Never Take Another Puff ) :-)

Nice one. Did you still smoke for two weeks before the meds licked in? Any side effects?

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?

2 months cold turkey, for me up to now. you don't need meds or patches or gum......you just need to stop smoking, it really is that simple. i get the odd "wish i could light up now" thought or feeling, but then again i'm happy i don't smell like an ashtray.
it amazes me how bad smokers actually smell.
saw an oldish bloke with his family in Fuji restaurant the other day, looked well off, nice clothes on all family members, lots of nice jewelry. the old guy was probably about 65. watching his grandkids eat, must of been nice for him. thing was he had a bottle of oxygen next to him with a tube going into his nose taped to his face. kind of spoiled the designer clothes look he has. Granted it maybe nothing to do with fags but it made me feel sorry for him but happy for me to know that i have lessened the chance of that being me by about 75%.
It's a mugs drug is all.

My Thai mate's dad had throat cancer and now can't speak. He has a neckerchief covering the hole. Still hasn't stopped me mate smoking though makes me think on.

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?

Yes, I still smoked during the first two weeks I took the medicine. But even after just 5 or 6 days I noticed that I just didn't want to smoke that much anymore.

It was like....I woke up at 7 am, started work and all of a sudden it turned out to be noon and I thought " Shit, it's noon I have to smoke!" :-) Not because I wanted to, but because I realised I hadn't smoked a single cigarette since I woke up. Sure that must have been a mistake? :-)

They say when you stop smoking you save a lot of money .... well for me it's the other way round at the moment. Cigarettes in Thailand are so cheap, it only cost me a 1000 B a month. The medicine (Quomem) costs me 1.800 B per month and because I don't want to gain weight and also because it helps you to prevent some of the physical withdrawal effects, I started to eat a lot healthier and drinking a lot of fruit and vegetable juice.
Apparently, some fruits or fruit juices help you by keeping up your sugar level ??? I'm not sure exactly what they do, check the web site if you want to know, but cranberry juice would be very good and it works for me.

About the side effects .... no, none so far. The only things I noticed is a dry mouth now and then and...eh ... well, when making love it takes me longer to c*m, wich I wouldn't call unpleasant and wich is something that maybe isn't caused by the medicine at all ... although I can not find anything else that could have caused this.

Again, hopes this helps. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Erwin

Re: Stopped smoking .... so easy !?

To Classis Chassis: Nice, respect. I don't know if I could do it cold turkey, but it seems to be the most successful way (meaning, of all the people who successfully stopped smoking, most of them did it without any meds or patches or...)
The web site I posted in my first thread has a forum you can join but only if you have stopped smoking for 3 days at least without any meds or whatever!

Still, it may be the best way, but not all of us have the will, or whatever it takes, to do it that way. For these people some help can be very useful and anyway, I m sure you will agree, at the end only 1 thing counts, you stopped smoking, with or without help doesn't really matter anymore then, does it?

Chok dee
