Re: Pumpin Iron
Loads of great weight programmes designed by women for women around.
Those lifts that counter the dreaded 'bingo wings' are especially handy.
My missus has been liftin like a demon for the last two years, mainly because she's become keen on tennis.
It's worked wonders for her forehand.
She's still crap at tennis.

I was not overly offended.
I doubt that your missus would get all muscley. It would take her a lot of heavy lifting for that. She can start by using 2 pound dumbells, and do arm curls, and tricep extensions. She should start light by doing 3 sets of 12-15 repetitions.
She should notice some definition after about six weeks of regular training 3x's a week.
I've actually just started back up after being out of it for over six months. Consistency is important.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Anyone who still thinks weights are solely for dykes and body builders is either clueless, on a wind up, or both.

Usually it takes a fair bit of heavy lifting and a good deal of testosterone to get big muscles. Very difficult for the girls to get big unless they are taking those sorts of things.
Did anyone see a doco called super-size barbie a few years back. About a female bodybuiler. Her voice was lower than most men. Definately on the drugs to get so big.

Which is sort of an advantage (if they don't use steroids) because they can improve body tone without getting bulky

Re: Pumpin Iron
^ Some women and naturally more muscular, so need to lower the weight, and add more reps. Don't get me started on steroids..terrible thing to do to yourself.

I haven't seen it, but sounds interesting. Did she say she was on drugs or you just figured she was? Drugs doesn't necessarily mean steriods.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Do any of you guys/girls have any weight training exercises that you like, or are working for you? I'm trying to change my gym routine around. I saw a guy doing dead lifts the other day, and they could be worth adding.
Thanks

Re: Pumpin Iron
deadlifts are very beneficial, and superb for functional strength
unfortunately
they are a very technical excersise to do proper
base your routine around
squats, deads, presses and cleans , pull ups and you wont go far wrong, everything else is cosmetic
try

Thanks for the website. Deadlifts look like it might be easy to pull a few muscles if not careful.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Agree with reinv. started back at the gym last week after 2 months off to devote my energies to debauchery. My mate back home advised me to build my sessions around the three core-strength lifts: bench press, squats and the dead-lift and add some cardio. I hate the dead lift the most and technique is very important but after my muscles heal, a day or two after each session, it makes a dramatic difference to how I feel, especially with my tendency to slouch. It's the 'core' of tomorrow's session and I am not looking forward to Tues. morning!!

Do deadlifts in front of a mirror.
This way, you can see your posture and you can better ensure you're lifting properly.
