Pumpin Iron
i hit the gym yesterday and today (haven't trained for 2.5 years) and i feel on top of the world. i used to love training before. now i've got a training buddy who is a real gym monster and will act as my trainer. i will train mon-fri, 5 times a week.
flangeland certainly turned me into a slob for a while.

Good for you. Whatever you do don't stop. Have they got decent rowing machines there?

thanks boss. i feel great. i slept for 14 hours yesterday, i was exhausted.
no, it's a tiny gym. but my mate reckons he can change my body shape in 3 months so i'm just gonna do weights and a bit of cross-trainer for the first month or so. ultimately, i think i'll join fitness first as they've got a sauna and steam room which i really love.
personal appearance is very important in thailand. wearing nice shirts and silk ties is good but if you've got flab bulging everywhere you still don't really look the part IMO.
plus, i don't want to pay for sex anymore so i'll have to look ripped.
you like rowing machines do you? they are good but my favourite is the cross-trainer coz it does your arse as well.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Where are you training at? I've been running five miles a day/three days weights before I moved to Bangkok. Now I'm down to maybe a 5 km run every 3 days and no weights. I need someone to get me back into the routine.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Most important thing to consider (because chicks love a ripped six-pack) that the body is truly made in the kitchen... you can work your ass off in the gym, but if you still eat greasy food and drink barly-pop you'll never get that sexy body

Re: Pumpin Iron
You won't get "fit" just by pumping iron alone, yeah you'll get big muscles but you'll sweat at the slightest bit of exertion.
I suggest a few good runs and a change of diet.
More fish like Salmon and salads, pasta, not too much rice, but if you can get brown rice even better, BBQ'ed stuff with salads from Arab town, Suk soi 3. All healthy wholesome stuff and see if you can switch to cereals for breakfast, all that kind of stuff keeps you going.
Junk food and fatty fried rices just clog you up and make you feel lethargic.

Re: Pumpin Iron
I been running about 2-3 times a week, alternating between hill and flat runs. I used to go to the Gym on top of it but haven't in a while. I might just start soon.
I think pumping iron is equally as important as Cardio. Once you hit 40 muscle tissue is gradually replaced with fat. So pump yourself up!

superb advice and actually i do try to follow this kind of routine ( and i have noticed that good diet is vital to results). concerning the training, i would say that that is slighty more important since it is easy to train to 80% or 85% intensity but difficult to get closer to 100%. if you push your body at the beginning and you are sensible, you can achieve a respectable amount of fitness and strength in as little as one month (and ultimately, fat loss). i also do a bit of cardio (cross-trainer = easy).
but it's hard work overall so it makes it more of a pain if you don't maintain this. and it gets harder with age.

Re: Pumpin Iron
I used to hit the gym five times a week. I used to catalog every rep and set that I did, and included poundages in my training journal. This was awhile back. I used to do a lot of stuff, but not anymore.
Arnold used to be my hero. Now Bush and Brown are. Bush used to suck, but not anymore. Brown is a further chapter in the book of Blair to keep British troops in Iraq. Hopefully they won't pull out.
Now I exercise and lift my fingers. I pump iron with them when I hit these keys. Am I any healthier now than I was back when I was pumping iron so long ago? I go to the gym here in Thailand about once a year, but I do purposely try to lengthen my journey of walking by not take moto-taxis when it would be easier, even though it's harder on my penny loafers.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Basically for quick results, cut all fizzy drinks, butter, mayo, fried food, candy, white bread, potato chips, cakes, french fries, and ice cream
Go for: water, steamed taro (the purple veg steamed at the sweetcorn stands), fruit, fruit and more fruit, green veggies, salads, sandwiches with no butter, protein, good carbs like brown rice and brown bread, salmon, grilled chicken without skin, pasta, cheese, egg whites, and cereals like oats, muesli and corn flakes or all bran.
Substitute sugar in tea with honey.
Sounds boring but it works, FAST. results within a month.

That's why so many go to these "fad" places, work out under the tutelage of some iffeminate personal trainer who keeps telling you what you wanna hear and then afterwards go and eat some stodgy meal, or even worse, junk food.
Then you're back to square one again.
The personal trainers at them places aren't paid enough to be dieticians.
They should be using proper people with sports science knowledge and experience.
That's why boxing training has remained unchanged for almost 100 years.

Re: Pumpin Iron
Man, the "gym" in Sathorn Saint View apartments is tragic. Looks like some Soviet army surplus gear that was knocked down 50% because half the pads, rollers, and bolts are missing.
I tried going down to Lumpini Park to use the weights there, but the humidity is killing me. I was so thoroughly soaked after 15 minutes that my shirt no longer had unsightly sweat patches, it was just completely wet and I was leaving puddles if I stood still for too long.

Re: Pumpin Iron
As I'm discovering. It seems to be suffering from an infestation of Germans at the moment. I tried laying out Poland next door and covering it with sticky stuff, but the wiley Teutons didn't fall for it.
