Which is the best hospital in Bangkok?

I went to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital last night, as it was recommended by a friend. It was very nice (door man to open the taxi door and the niceties continued from there) but a long hike from my home.

Are other more central hospitals just as good?

Cut and pasted straight from my BUPA International members world webpages, I have a choice of the following for direct BUPA charging. (I have to pay and reclaim from BUPA at any others) If you use one of the participating hospitals or clinics, you may ask for your claim to be settled directly with BUPA International on production of your BUPA membership card. You are not restricted to the use of the hospitals or clinics on our list - you may use any recognised hospital or clinic (as defined in the rules)

I think Bumrungrad is supposedly the best, but it depends what you want I think.

I think the question of which is the 'best' hospital in Bangkok is impossible to answer. It firstly depends on what your complaint is. On the surface Bamrungrad is supposedly the best hospital in Thailand but if I had for example an eye infection I would prefer to go to the Rutnin eye hospital on Soi Asoke.

I've used Samithiwej on Sri Nakarin a couple of times, and while it's a fairly decent place to get treatment, it's a seriously inferior version of its branch off Soi Thonglor. I think of the two hospitals as the equivalent of 3-star and 5-star hotels.
What people like about me is that I'm not afraid to call a spade a soil redistribution implement.

Phillip's post hits the nail on the head. It also depends on where you live. I'm in north Bangkok so I use Nonthawej. But for eyes its to Asoke and Rutnin.

On this subject, and not to hijack or anything, but where would you recommend for Orthopedic Suregery/work?

Hi EddyFi. You don't mention where you live, but I can give a recommendation based on experience. Back in January, I was teaching a corporate class near Rama IX (Praram 9) Hospital. At the end of class, I became really sick to my stomach, and I went directly to the hospital.

The doctor took me within 5 minutes and I was given a prescription. I was completely finished in less than an hour and the medication, including antibiotics, anti-spasmodics, pain killers and an electolyte drink cost me around 500 Baht.

I had beome sick again a few months after this, so I went back to Rama IX. Again, I got to see a specialist whithin a few minutes, then I was able to have some tests done. To make a long story short, the specialist made a follow up appointment for me and he truly wanted me to heal rather than to become a "regular".

He gave me tips on diet and lifestyle and he said that if I'm a bit cautious, I shouldn't have any problem ever again. The nurses are very professional and several of them speak English. I was planning on starting a thread on this to mention how happy I was and to see if others have had similar experiences with specific hospitals. I hope that helps.

When you reply could you let us know if you're asking in general or for the case of an emergency.

Both. I was looking for the best all round service, but especially the availability of specialist departments out of hours. Some of the hospitals close some departments throughout the day (and especially the night), according to their websites.

I live at the top of Rachada.

What about skin specialists? Any recommendations? What's the closest of the listed hospitals to Kao Sarn?

For surgical procedures, I would recommend Samitivej Sukhumvit over Bumrungrad. BRG was also poor when I had a stomach problem.

It seems that BRG is more a style over substance type of hospital - perfect for rich Thais!

If not the best, then #2 or #3. Not sure if I'd get RK / "lasik" though, as both the founder and his son still wear glasses.

Well Phil did a good thread about a skin 'hospital' that's off the beaten track last week or so.
Tried to find this thread on Search, No Luck, can anybody point me in the right direction, I am trying to find a good Hospital that deals in Skin Grafts, as i have some bad scars from petrol burns that need sorting.
I would not work in this country if you paid me.
