Thank you
any more cheapo places for this thread?
i've moved on to flashier digs but i'm always
on the lookout and suffer from unexpected
bouts of slum-hunger.
I've been walking the streets house hunting last week and came across some quite nice places and other complete grottos that I don't know how people live there. Granted, said places had very dirty looking farang about so that answers that question!
Firstly looked out at Ari since that's where everyone seems to rave about. I found it to be much too quiet (and I like quiet!) for what I was after and a bit too far out but if that's what you want, it seems a nice area.
VP Tower off Soi Rangnam is grossly overpriced at 10,000 baht for a standard hotel sized dark rooms with tv, minibar fridge, half a metre big balcony, dirty carpets and ancient bedding.
The Victory Executive Residence is a bright yellow beacon off Sri Ayuthaya has nice hotel style rooms for 10,000, is very clean and quite classy looking inside (at least in comparison to VP Tower).
One that's not advertised was on the soi just after the big park (closer to Rachaprarop Rd) but still on Rangnam, a couple of hundred metres down on the right called Thanit Apartment. 28sqm studio for 5,800. No kitchenette though but has hot water and wifi. Also on that soi about 50 metres down on the left was Virasri Court. Very nice large studio rooms with lots of storage/cupboard space for 10,000 month (02 6424343) and includes some washing and ironing deals and has wifi.
On Ratchaprarop road soi 20 (or 22) was a nicely renovated place The Grand Apartment (ph;086 6007113) for 5,500 baht/month with wifi 700 per/mth. No fridge but has tv. Would have liked this place but not available til the 1st of May. Another up from this area closer to Vic Mon (Rathathewi Rd??) was People Apartment for 5,600 wifi, etc available after Songkran.
Starry Place off Rangnam had good sized one bedroom apartment for 10,000 with wifi extra. Large bedroom and separate lounge, kitchenette. Very good in my opinion for the proximity to everything.
Living Naraa Place near Chong Nonsi Skytrain was clean, standard size with no tv and no fridge but could hire them for 500 baht each per month. 5000 for small studio, 7500 for one bedroom. No internet.
Best Living HOuse and several others on Soi Ngam Dupli near Lumpini Park were grotto hells you couldn't pay me to live in. Stinky, dirty, crowded, some grossly overpriced for what you get. One was 6000 baht for no hot water, thin ancient squeaky bed and caving in walls. Disgusting to put it mildly. I was a bit scared to get in the lift with all the noises it was making..can't remember the name of that one but on that soi.
Villa Suan Plu on Soi 8 Suan Plu has one studio apartment left (on 6th April) for 8000 baht with wifi, pool, gym all extra (but available!). Very clean, very light, 15 min walk to skytrain or underground or 5 minute drive. Kitchenette with fridge, sink, cupboards, lots of storage space and shelves. Close to market and Tops supermarket.
Hope this helps someone. Feel free to pm me for more info.
Good stuff lawoo!

Used to live at Sutti Mansion II, which is at the corner of Suk 38 and RIGHT at the Thong Lo BTS station. Small, clean studios for 9,xxx and small 1 bedrooms for 17,xxx. It's expensive for the size but it's quiet (given the busy corner) and literally 3 meters from the front door to the BTS escalator. Also has the some of the best street food in BKK right outside, the Soi 38 Night Food Market.
Room includes basic furniture, internet and UBC can be ordered, and there is a reasonably priced laundry shop (and 30baht washing machines) downstairs.
Highly recommended if you value being as close to the BTS as possible.

Too long in Exile my friend, Baby you can never go home again.
An OZ mate of mine is coming to BKK for six months to study at one of those language schools in Sukhumvit Soi 11 or 13. He needs a studio that's within commuting distance to his school (not more than 30 min). Internet access in the room, a few channels of farang TV and a study desk are must haves. A microwave would be nice but not essential. Budget of 8,000Bt all inclusive but he can be flexible with it.
Any suggestions? Help, please.![]()
Here's a true gem. On Soi On Nut between soi 32 and 34, a 25 sq meter with A/C and hot water shower for about 5,000 baht. It's a brand-new building. You'll need songtaew or motorcycle taxi to reach On Nut BTS.
