Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
Hi All,
Well, I have a friend in a bind. She lives in the same building as me, but she needs to move out at the end of this month. Aside from me, there is only one other farang living in this building that I know of. It is a studio apartment. She lives there with her husband and kid. So, 3 people are living in the same room. It is more than adequate for a teacher here in Bangkok. I know because I used to live in the same model on a different floor. Now that I am married, I have moved to a proper one bedroom apartment in the same building. Here are the details:
Location: Ratchaparop Road - Soi 12 (Soi Ratchaparop)
Rent: 4500 baht per month + utilities
Security: 24 hours with security camera
Apartment: It is one room with a kitchen room. There is a balcony overlooking the soi. It is on the 3rd floor. There is a lift to get you up there. It is quiet and clean. There is A/C, but it will hit the electric. The current occupant uses it for about 2 hours. The bill comes to 2,200 per month. However, I only used it 3 times per month in our old apartment. Our bill came out to 500-600 per month. Water isn't expensive enough to even consider.
Nearby: There are several minimarts, a nice park, a couple of restaurants at Ratchaparop Tower Mansion (which is much more expensive and not as nice), Lucky Pub (an all night disco) is walking distance, Soi Rangnam has a few Thai pubs and some good western grub at reasonable prices. The local 7-11 pays no attention to alcohol laws, so you will never be out of booze. You can easily walk to Pratunam. Victory Monument is nearby. If you aren't up for walking, it is only 20 baht to get there on a motorbike taxi. Sukhumvit (soi 4) is 50 baht to get to and takes just 10 minutes. Big C and Central World are a 5 minute bus ride away.

Re: Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
The electric is just too high. 8 hours a night would run 8,000 baht a month for a one room apartment. Bummer about that.

It is about a 10 minute walk to the intersection of Ratchaparop and Makkasan. It isn't far at all.

Yup - too bad about the extortion with power rates. I live in a 3-story townhouse. There is only one A/C, in the master bedroom, that runs about 12 hours per day, sometimes more. Three people live there with computer running 24/7, lights, water pump, refrigerator, etc. Our power bill comes runs about 3200 bt/month.

Re: Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
I don't find it so bad. My apartment is twice as big as the one I mentioned. It is 7000 per month. With utilities, my bill was less than 8000 all in. I never turn my computer off. The TV is always on. No problem for me....perhaps the a/c unit is a piece of junk.
You have your own meter to check yourself if you would like as well.

Re: Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
computers use next to no power. same thing for tvs unless its very large or a plasma/lcd. my guess is that either the ac unit blows or the meter is rigged.

Re: Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
In my apartment, we have two A/C units. I don't have these bills. My wife contends that she uses the A/C much more than she lets on. We used the A/C a ton last month, and our bill was a fraction of what it costs her. I honestly don't know how her bill was so high. They wouldn't rig the meters here. Maybe she lied a little bit to me since I rarely turn it on and I am farang. Her husband likes it to be cold at night she says. Who knows?

In the same building, in two different apartments, I have never crossed the 1500 baht mark.

Re: Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
at my previous residence, i NEVER turned the air off and my bill was never over 1200!! 3.5 per unit. the ac unit can make a world of a difference. the energy efficient ones are worth the investment.

Re: Apartment For Rent - Near Pratunam - 4500 baht
There are a lot of people who wouldn’t mind paying just 6 Baht a untit. 5 & 6 Baht a unit is reminisce of the 1990’s whereas the norm toady is more around the 7 and 8 baht a pop.
This is where it pays to rent a condo if you use a lot of power. Almost all privately owned condos are billed straight from the national grid. I don’t think it’s much more than 1.5 to 2 baht a unit depending on the time of day, but don’t quote me on that.
I have a large AC unit in the lounge, and a small but adequate until in the bedroom. Last month I had the bedroom unit on all night every night, and my total elec bill didn’t top 850 Baht. PC on all day, TV sounding off in the background, fan on continuously, fridge, hot water and so on…. And to think I’m at home all day long tapping at the keyboard, you can see the savings of a condo.
