Small house needed!!
Still trying to find someone who will rent me a sm. house. need 2 beds (1 bed 1 office/study).
We are 2...no pets etc. 1 Brit 1 Thai. We know the typical rents and stuff.
Unfortunately, reasonable access to Siam/Silom--even distant--is needed (our jobs) So, Rangsit or long treks not possible.
We know that Thai owners will let for 10k-15k (a pal with Thai wife and a kid has a house near Saphan Taksin 14,000b) for a house (not condo), although we are trying to locate somethg. We have just missed a house for 14,000b near Rachada.
All help or advice gratefully accepted.

Re: Small house needed!!
Getting yourself a good deal on a house can be done in three ways, in my opinion.
1) Probably the best way: go to an area you want to live and ride around it on a motorsai, going up and down all the sois and phoning numbers (get a Thai to do it) with all the houses with a hai chao sign outside. I saw an enormous detached house - I'd say at least 4 bedrooms, large garden, etc, for 15K p/m the other week. Find out what written Thai is for 'Hai Chao'.
2) Word of mouth. Ask your mates if they knwo of anywhere, people at work, etc etc
3) Thai property magazines: we got our present house (20K p/m 3 beds, 3 baths, office, plus 2 shop rooms, living rooms, reception, 110 sq tw, etc, etc) through one of these. They are big thick things that run classifeds for houses and condos for sale/rent. Lots in the 10-20K and divided into areas of the city. They are all in Thai so get the missis to read it for you. The one I got was called soemthing liek Baan Laek Tee Din (?).

Re: Small house needed!!
driving around and knowing people is the best way
knowing people takes the longest....driving around can be unfruitful if you only have a few days or weeks.
real estate places are generally expensive. although they may manage the place, youre still on your own.
the best is to stay near where you want and figure on a month....go around, ask people....sometimes there are gems, but the owner isnt active to advertise....sometimes just a phone number on a door- and noone else nearby even knew. really.
basically, unless you can speak thai well and can navigate the terrain, its going to either take a lot of time or money to find a good place in a short amount of time. good luck.

Re: Small house needed!!
We are still looking!
It can be done. There are small sois which have single houses, even fairly central (like near St Louis Hospital).
Any information leading to somewhere wd be welcome. A bottle of (good) wine if u can help.

Re: Small house needed!!
Must it be a detached house? We've just moved into a townhouse about 1 km off sathorn, down narathiwas rd. We have parking behind our gate, a proper kitchen, 2 bdr, 3 bath, maid room, living room, dining room, laundry area. We are paying 12k. If you are able to widen your search criteria you could find something more quickly I think.
Another way to find a place is to talk to the motorcycle taxi guys in the area in which you want to live. Offer them a finder's fee for good leads (100 bt) and a bonus for the guy who finds the place you actually rent (500 bt).

Re: Small house needed!!
No, it doesn't need to be detached, although I can't bear noise. Seems to me that townhouses in "lo-so" areas come with stereo and dogs from next door. I have a friend up Rachada way who has a place like that.
I know Narathiwas Rd. Which soi is it in? Anythg else going free up there?
Motorbike boys is a good idea! Didn't think of that.
