Thats why he has to get up there and have a look himself. If you are gonna plonk down more than a million baht you have to really check out what you are buying. Especially if you take into the varying types of construction in Thailand.

Re: prices : condo in chiang mai : 4 sale
^ I think he just wanted a general idea mate....I'm assuming he won't actually plonk the money down without going up there.....seems a reasonable question to me to be fair....and mostly reasonable answers.
Maybe give him some ideas on the various forms (varying types) of construction, so if and when he is up there he'll know what to look out for and possibly avoid.

^ There's no way to give him his answers, because his idea of 'suitable' and others' ideas of 'suitable' are very likely to be different things. The answers are for him to find via the internet, looking around and talking with people in the business. Aitch and lasher were kind enough to give him some links to get started. I think the OP implies that he has done no research; it's a safe assumption.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was about to say! You really have to be very cautious about buying any property in Thailand.

He should talk with the people at Sunbelt or a few experts and stay away from jackasses on internet forums when it comes to these kinds of questions. This is not the home improvement forum/show. Where's Tim Allen when you need him? This is like asking a bunch of school teachers at the local primary school about buying property in a foreign country. Don't try this at home folks! The result can be very embarrasing.

And the different building types mate? Anything to look out for?
You know this being the housing, apartment and condo part of Ajarn....to me at least (and maybe like you I'm just assuming) gives the impression some people might know something about....err....housing, apartments and condos?
I would 'assume' that some people on here either have bought a condo in Chiang Mai, or have looked into it....thus they may well be able to help.

R. Ever consider that maybe he regards more space as just more to clean. Or that a kitchen may be completely unnecessary for his lifestyle. (I do not have one. I don't cook nor do I have any intention of cooking. There are is a shopping center 100 meters away, and the place has a 7/24 restaurant.)
I live comfortably in a much smaller place (and I can afford larger). Just is things like location, what you do with spare time, how many people live in the space, etc. matter. I am assuming that someone who wants 60sq m. knows what that looks like in a typical Thai floor plan.
So if you cannot be at least marginally helpful....
But OP. My advise to you is to stay at an apartment first. Get to know CM, meet some locals, get to know the area first before you plop a bunch of money down on a condo.
Also under no circumstances should you buy one in "Thai" or company ownership. Also consider that condos are not maintained well in Thailand. If the ceiling suddenly has a leak from the apartment above, the building maintenance company will not get involved. You have to go up, and ask them to fix it. If they don't(usually the case) what are you going to do? What if they say, we just rent here is the owners telephone number in Sweden and oh he only speaks Swedish. I knew a guy who had to pay to have the plumbing redone on the unit above him just to get it done. Do you really want sewage wastewater dripping on you while showering?
