Still, it doesn't help me with my original problem. When I will arrive in BKK, I obviously will need a few days to find suitable accomodation. And i'm really wondering where I could stay for those few days with my feline companion.

Re: Quick pet-related question
Lots of hotels in Bangkok allow it but by googling you only get 4 and 5 star places.

Re: Quick pet-related question
I know... I've tried searching for a pet-friendly place and all I get are hotels in the 60-100EUR/night price range... *sigh*

Re: Quick pet-related question
One quick question. How is the cat gonna cope with temps in the mid 30's during the day while you are at work or school? Pretty sure you dont get many hot days back home.

Re: Quick pet-related question
Well, I never had any problems with her during the really hot days we had in Belgium in 2005 (38° and up).
There should also be at least one room in the apartment/house I will rent which will be a bit colder (a room with no windows for example, like the bathroom).
How do pet owners manage the heat problem in Thailand?

Re: Quick pet-related question
The cats are used to it. Really its got to be genetic. You never see a long hair here though.

Re: Quick pet-related question
I arrived in BKK recently from the U.S. with a 15 lb dog, who traveled on-board with me. I flew Thai Airways and they were fantastic. I made sure I had every single piece of documentation for my dog with me -- specifically, though, I needed the health certificate and the vaccination record. The health certificate you will receive from your own vet (with whom you need to make an appt for the health cert exam), but it has to be signed and sealed by the USDA dept in your state capital. You have to take the health cert to the USDA no more than 10 days before arrival (not DEPARTURE, you will lose a day remember).
I had absolutely no problems at all bringing my dog here, and I was SO worried!! But she had been vaccinated for everything this year, so that was important. Yes, there is always a chance that the official who is doing the paperwork will decide to quarantine the pet. But if your paperwork is all in order, the chances are small. Make sure your airline carrier notifies the airport in BKK that you are arriving with a pet (this is very important). Also, just to be on the safe side, send an email to both of these government addresses: dcontrol8@dld.go.th and qsap_bkk@dld.go.th . Send details of all your arrival information. I sent them an email with a copy of my e-ticket, and though I did not receive a reply, the official at the airport remembered my email specifically.
My boss helped arrange a place for my pet to stay for a few days while I was getting situated. This is a "hotel" for dogs only (she really liked it and the price was 500THB/day) so your cat cannot stay there, but maybe they know of a similar place for cats? Here is their email: petparadisepark2004@yahoo.com
As for the heat, there are street dogs and cats everywhere who seem to be surviving with no problem at all! I have an air-con room where I'm living, and I turn it on for an hr or so in the morning before I go to work. The room stays reasonably comfortable all day because I keep the blinds drawn and close the door to the room, and I also set the air-con timer to come on again after 4 hrs, thermostat at 30 degrees. When I get home my dog is always just fine. However, if you have no air-con, I still think you can work out how to keep the room at a reasonable temp.
Good luck, hope this info helps!

Re: Quick pet-related question
To the OP.
I'm now living with my cat in bangkok. Entry procedures were not big deal, actually the hardest part is probably what the airline and your home country will request. All the Thai quarantine authorities really want is the exit quarantine form and the paper for her shots.
Paid about EUR 100 to get her on the plane with me (on Thai), and a paltry THB200 at the quarantine office on arrival.
I'm staying in a condo in which pets are explicitly banned, but my building manager, staff and owner fawn all over my cat whenever they pay a visit and there hasnt been any problems for almost 1 year now. A dog would be more of a problem, but I think you'll get away with a cat almost anywhere.
Cheers

We're in the process of getting our dog flown out and I've managed to get the requirements for the import licence emailed to me (below). Presume it's the same for cats - suggest you email and check. Note it takes a week to get issued, so i don't know how you go about thst when you're not in the country.
Please send the following documents to
qsap_bkk@dld.go.th or Fax +662-134-3640 for making the Import Permit for your dog.
1. Copy of Passport or Identification of owner
2. Address in UK and Address in Thailand
3. E-mail address
4. Details of your dog (eg. breed, number, age and sex) and copy of vaccination book
of your dog ( esp. rabies vaccination)
5. Detail of arrival date, airline and flight No.
Note:
- Import Permit is valid for 45 days.
- It takes about 1 week or longer to process your import permit .
- When you arrive at the airport, you have to show us the health certificate issued by authorized
veterinary official (from UK Animal Quarantine Office), not the Pet European Passport or health
certificate from animal clinic or hospital.
If you have any further questions, please write to me at qsap_bkk@dld.go.th

Did you ever find a place to rent where you could keep your cat?
BTW, there is no heat problem in Thailand, especially in November. If anyone out there doubts me, they should go live somewhere in the Middle East in July/August where the temperature regularly reaches 50c. Cats (some with long hair) absolutely everywhere outside eating out of dumpsters in the blazing heat with no shade.
