Chaing Mai accomodations
Headed up to CM on our visit (3 weeks to go) and looking for recommendations for housing.
Me and the wife (Thai) so looking for nice place. Want a clean room, TV, ac and fairly close by.
Probably not a lot of bar hopping, so quiet is good.
I've seen lot's advertised, but hoping for a personal recommendation.
Thanks!

Re: Chaing Mai accomodations
Presume it's short-time you want.
Try huay kaew residence. web site of the same name.
A month's pay and month deposit up front. Newish, maybe 3 years old by now. Pool, internet, UBC etc.
From about 5-13K I think. Go for a one bedroom, about 8,500 I think.

Re: Chaing Mai accomodations
Migrant, We stayed here last year and quite frankly, will probably stay there everytime we go to Chiang Mai from now on. Mainly it is a restaurant downstairs, really good one, but there are three big teak rooms upstairs. The personal touch you get there from the lady who owns it is beyond compare. The breakfasts she puts on in the morning, the fresh ground coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice. She's a bit of a perfectionist. Its all just awesome. I am looking forward to going back. You just feel that much more special when you get the personal touch in a place like this.

So you're looking for a hotel then?
Try the Montri Hotel for starters

I forgot I was dealing with teachers, I need to be careful on my tipying!!
Budget is fairly open, We hate paying a lot for just a room, but also want clean etc. Location I'm not sure, we have never been to CM before.
The one Greenleaf mentioned looked very nice, at 4100 bt quoted it's fairly high, but does look nice.
I haven't checked Montri yet, but will. Thanks all.

Baan Orapin is highly recommended and it has great reviews at Trip Advisor if you want more details. They have a weekly rate also.

Re: Chaing Mai accomodations
I'm off to Chiangmai tomorrow. I booked a week at Na Inn.

It 's new and looks good on the internet, good reviews, good location, and cheap. I booked with a phone call and the staff seemed friendly and helpful.

It may be very nice but I don't think it is necessary to pay anything like that for a good room in Thailand.

4,100 Baht is fine if you're on your honeymoon or trying to impress the little lady, but other than that, there are plenty of clean rooms in good locations with all the facilities for much, much less. I think the Montri starts at about 700 Baht a night, but some of the guest houses these days are pretty good starting at 400 and up.

Re: Chaing Mai accomodations
I tried the Montri once and wouldn't stay there again.
It was about 700b, but was quite basic. Mattress hard, toilet a bit smelly. Dismal corridors with brown doors, you know the kind of thing. Also, it's on a busy junction near the town gate, so some rooms have traffic noise.

Re: Chaing Mai accomodations
Porn Tower if you want fancy. Porn (old section) if you want cheap. Also People Place across from Chaing Mai Plaza Hotel. The Prince is cheap (but has seen better days). I liked the Chaing Mai Gate Hotel but it is a bit south.
Suriwongese is at a good location for walking around, near the river and bazarr.

We had our one week there. We paid 600b/n and I thought it was great value for a large, well appointed room, in a convienent location. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was good.
Strangely, the place was almost empty. I only saw one other couple who stayed there 1 night.
