    Tips on Living in Pinklao???

I'm moving to Pinklao. Can anyone recommend an apartment 10-20 minutes walk from Pata Pinklao? I can spend up to about 8,000 Baht.

    Thanks!

Re: Tips on Living in Pinklao???

Damn - I used to live about a 20 minute walk from there and the apartment was about 4000 baht and fairly big for the price. Was in quite a large block down about Charan Sanitwong 50 something...and I can't remember the name of the place or the exact soi number(was an odd number).

Sorry for such a crap post, if I can find out where I was I will post again.

EDIT: I managed to find the place. It's Sri Bamruang Muang apartments on soi 53. I'm not saying this place is perfect, I don't know what your standards are like. They were good value though I thought, as they were a fair bit larger than other places I looked at in that area for a similar price - large enough to divide into two and have a separate bedroom and living room space (as they are studios, so you'd have to do that with furniture layout).

I think they were about 40sqm but I am not very good with measurements. The rooms had a bath which was a bonus to me, but the furniture was a bit sparse.

I lived there about 4 years ago and they were 4000 pm then so may be a bit more now. They were popular but there are about 14 floors and people are always moving in and out.

The number I found on the website was 02-881-8911(-35), or you could go down there and ask in person (their English is not great) - if you did the apartment block is pretty much at the end of the soi on the left hand side if I remember rightly.

Sounds like good advice. A link to the website might be useful, or did I miss something somewhere?

Re: Tips on Living in Pinklao???

They don't have a website of their own, I just found a very uninformative page on thai4rent.com and a yellow pages entry - they didn't have any further info apart from the street number. Heres a link to the yellow pages entry in case the address helps

Sri Bamruang Muang Apartment : Thailand Yellow Pages Business Telephone Directory

I guess I should point out that the majority of the people living there were Thai when I was there. There was a reasonable scattering of foreigners but mainly Thai - a fair few students too. I'm not sure what standard of accommodation the OP is looking for but as I said, these are roomy for the price and if you add your own furniture you could make them look nice enough.

If they aren't suitable then there is a much plusher place up the road a bit towards Pata - something Towers...it's on the main road anyway, and impossible to miss. I think they used to start at about 12k or so though.

if you're willing to spend a few thousand more than 8,000, I'd highly recommend sivalai place. quite new, large pool, great for swimming laps, 4 tennis courts and very friendly staff. it's near sirirat hospital in a quiet neighborhood off the main road.

good point, 5-10 mins in taxi or taxi motorcyce, though.

don't think I've ever walked to work in bkk (too hot), did up country when living on campus. used to see this farang bird ride her bicycle everyday from that apartment to the pata area (probably 10-15 min). it was pretty funny to see as she was a young blond, looking like she didn't have a care in the world as trucks, cars and motorbikes were swerving around her.

Re: Tips on Living in Pinklao???

I don't normally walk anywhere nowadays, but funnily enough I used to do pretty much the walk the OP is talking about, for a private lesson in some crappy derelict classroom, of an afternoon. Those were the days. Sweating my bollocks off, walking down Charan in the blistering heat.

Used to be a 14 baht blue aircon bus journey to/from Victory Monument if I remember correctly, from where I was on Charan Sanitwong. The bus conductors always pretended they didn't understand me when I told them where I wanted to go. I thought I was speaking crystal clear, but maybe I was rubbish.

I had to go to VM regularly, as I had the misfortune of working for Siam Computer when I arrived out here. Some good and bad memories of Mr Michael there, although he could be very funny at times. I always remember the time he was sending me off to cover at some school (I was a substitute teacher) and I said, "So how do we get to this school then?", to which he replied, "What do you mean we, white boy?" - made me chuckle at the time.

I feel quite nostalgic now, thinking about my old apartment. Maybe I should take a trip out to one of the rustic stone-floored karaoke bars that are to be found around there. There's also quite a lot of larger, more upmarket (if I can use that word to describe them!) karaoke bars, with varying degrees of sauciness available, up and down that road.

Thank you very much for the tips. I looked at the apt. yesterday and might sign a lease over the weekend.

For anyone who sees this, they had two rooms. One was just over 4,500 Baht. The other 5,500 Baht, depending upon the condition of the furniture. Ask to see a few rooms. Some are different layouts than others. For example, some have full baths off of the balcony and some have them in-suite.

    Again, thank you.

They have monkeys on the top floor of the shopping centre Kon Thai Jai Lai!
Go from Pata to KSR by taxi, only 40 baht! Use Viphawadi Rangsit for other places as it can save lots of time. Check out Central, nearby as much better than Pata. Don't work for inlingua as they're slave drivers! There's a nice block of apts on the other side of Central at the start of the road.
