Ah, now I know where you mean. If I were you, I'd go for a walk along Rama 4 looking for apartments. There is a clean but maybe too basic apartment block close to the back/side of Lotus. It's probably not what you are looking for but it may be worth a look. I used to know a girl there. Probably about 4,000 a month (the room, not the girl). Failing that, have a look near Lumpini or Suk Soi 22 and 24.
in the back of suk 22 near rama 4 are a bunch of apts hidden in the back sois. tons of places. its actually not far at all you can walk it) to the underground station at "soon sirikit".
anyways, the place is...going from rama 4 to suk, on suk 22, the apts are on the left, just down the street from the bmw dealer and the two hotels opposite each other.
I lived in Rompo Mansion for about 9 months. They will give you a square deal, and they did pay me back all the security deposits that they promised in their contract. The average room is too expensive for 10,000 baht per night. However, they do offer extra such as a free swimming pool, health spa, sauna, and hi-fi. The Klong Toey area around Rompo isn't pleasant, but there is quick access to a Tesco and Carre Four. There are plenty of cheaper accommodations nearby. You can always pay to use the health spa facilities without living there -- a much better deal than places like California spa. When I lived there, Rompo was well-known for its martial arts classes. It is also famous for all the fashion models (especially Russian) that live on the third floor. This was sort of a benefit of living there for the eye-candy value.
I trained at Rompo for a few months in 2006.
Would never live near that area though, but nearby opposite is a place called Jintara Mansion, which is well known, where a mate of mine lived. 8000 per month.

Thou shalt not mess with another mans sloth.....
i changed to the studio with tiles instead of carpet today. it's so much better! furniture isn't bad compare to before. last night the water that goes into the toilet was leaking after each flush and there was hair in the bathroom. they really need to fix that level up (level 10) where i'm currently in level 6 now.
the street area around rompo mansion is run down but it's very close to everything. there is a small mall 2 mins away which has everything. the supermarket sells everything u need on level 3 and has KFC, maccas and DQ where there a large food court on level 4 that sells food for all cultures. train station is in walking distance!
studio room with carpet 1 1/2 stars (wouldn't recommend)
stuidio room with tiles 3 1/2 stars (recommend for cheap accommodation)

Best of luck, that area is a gridlock at the best of times but it has easy access to Sukhumvit 22 / 24 / 26 Emporium, Skytrain etc. by motorbike taxi.
Also a good cut price sports store down the road to the left of Carrefour.
