I lived along Charoen Nakorn 14 for a while in 2002, and it was rather noisy and hot in the mornings, due to my window being in the suns line of sight so to speak. The BTS was still being built across the river from Sapan Taksin at that time and my way across was via the 'Pepsi boat' for 2 baht.

Not a bad area to reside in but certainly not the best.

For the price the OP is not bad at all.

Dont go to the big department store go to the Thai furniture store. Departments store 8-50,000 baht, Thai places 4-15,0000.

Department stores stock the best. Most are imported, hence the difference. Hell you can get a Sealy super bed if ya want.

There's a very small park underneath Sapan Taksin. I don't know whether it meets now, but when I used to live in the area there was a friendly running club that used to meet there most evenings. There was also a free open-air gym.

I still maintain that the apartment in the original post is a bit inconveniently located, but if someone's interested I suppose it might be worth a look. There are much cheaper apartments in and around Charoen Nakon 14. I'm not sure of the soi number (possibly soi 10) but there's a large apartment building that two years ago had many vacanct rooms. There were problems with the building management and the "swimming pool" looked like a nature experiment. I was told that many Thai people avoided the place due to ghosts - there had been a fire a few years back and several people were killed (in an illegal casino on the top floor?). Anyway, the place had big apartment rooms - maybe 40 to 80 sqm. for about 8 to 12,000 baht. Some were done up nicely, but others were raw concrete floors with peeling floor tiles. Nice.
