Apartment Agent?
I know there are many online apartment finding sites that you can peruse for apartments. I am unfamiliar with certain areas of Bangkok and as such I would like a real person with a list of possible apartments for rent. In Sacramento, California where I was renting an apartment I used a apartment agency that took part of my first months rent as there payment and in exchange they found several apartments for me and sent me out to look at them and pick one that fit my needs and price range. Does any one know of a service in bangkok? The amount I would be willing to part with for rent has to be from 10,000 – 16,000 per month. Less if possible will that price range bring in a quality apartment? Sorry in advance for the noob questions

No they dont have that here. And do you have other income or savings? As it seems you are willing to pay almost half your salary in exchange for living. This is quite a high figure. You can get quite nice air conditioned apartments for 5-9,000 baht. Why dont you try this forum.
I found it best just to walk the streets once I found the area I wanted to live. With the skytrain and subway your options are much more open. When I lived on Sukumvit 61 it took me 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours to Silom. Now its 20 minutes.
Try Mr. Roomfinder right above this forum to start. Its also nice to see another Californian coming on board. :chug:

This apartment hunting is tiring. Trying to get to an area and then when you get there no one speaks English, so it is useless. Sometimes they give the information and then let me know they have no units at this time. All I want is a cheap place to live for a month with ac and if possible a ctv. Might be a good business for someone you think?

Mate this is Thailand, and you're a teacher, 1+1=2. Keep on trying we have all been though it. At least you have the skytrain and subway.

Another one...
OK, for 30,000 Baht I'll sort you out an apartment and pick you up from the airport and take you to your new home.
Deal?
PM me and I'll send my bank details as you'll need to forward 2 month's deposit and a month's rent as well as 50% of my fee.
I can supply girls as well if you wish - only 5,000 baht each night!

Sounds a good deal, there are few businesses doing this in Bangkok, but they charge around 60,000 for the pick-up and apartment set-up. They'll usually help you get a phone line installed if needed, the UBC hooked up and of course highspeed internet access. 30,000 is a good deal. I wouldn't be messing about with them 5,000 girls, atleast 7,500 for a goodun. Good luck youngyoda and santan, but you could certainly save yourself a headache and a few litres of sweat getting someone to sort you out.

Marmite's offer is not bad, jeez I'd sort you out for a fee if thats what you want, but I'm not so hot with the sheilas so I wouldn't be able to throw them into the deal. Why not post what you want here and how much you'd be willing to pay. Some of the folk here would be able to get you a much better deal for a fraction of the cost of some of the expat set-up businesses out there.

I think the tuk tuk drivers gave some lessons to Marmite on apartment hunting. There is just such a variety to choose from here. If I were not cash strapped(broke) the apartment hunt would really be easy. Hell it can almost be fun. Tonight I tried the telephone(nice invention) and most hung up as soon as I strarting speaking English... Now one guy just put me through to one of the renters that happens to speak English. After a brief discussion she is going to help me find an apartment. Now that would not happen anywhere, but here.
