Get an appartment for 5500 - there are millions of them around any skytrain station. Check with the landlord about whether you are allowed a direct line into the room (some allow it, others don't!)

Move in and then call True and tell them you would like a phone line and DSL internet (2.5Mb - for about 1200Bt).

    Job's a goodun!

7k appartments don't have DSL connections in their rooms in Bangkok, that would be silly as very few people that live in 7k appartments use high speed internet! (Someone will be here to tell me I'm wrong in a minute! All I know is it will be much easier for you to find a 5500 room without internet than a 7000 room with it!)
Excuse me for not taking this seriously .....

I think Defender is on the right track. Most apartments below the 20,000 baht a month level dont have individual phone lines and you have to go through a switchboard which may be up to 30 years old. Just be sure you are in an area where you can call True or Telecom Asia, and get a line in a week or so.

Check out Welshmans thread in computers, its not easy getting a phone line out of BKK proper.

No and some landlords will try and get you to pay them a big chunk to have a private line in. Don't pay it, just go and ask somewhere else! There's no reason to pay the landlord - you are actually doing them a favour as they will be able to charge more for the room when you leave if they want to!
