Re: HUGE!!! Bogus Diploma Ring Busted
Good story. I know sometimes we regard these fake diplomas as a bit of a joke. And if the most challenging aspect of your job is teaching an 8 year old Thai kid about past perfect tense I guess not much harm done. But if your MD or oncologist or even dentist is using one it becomes a bit more of an issue. I am glad US government is cracking down on this one but I am sure there are many others.

I remember working next to people who were making more than me because they had advanced degrees/experience but the person was completely incompetent. This explains a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if half of the upper-crust Americans have phony degrees/experience. I think all industries need a shake-down to weed out the fakes, especially countries like India, Phillipines, Thailand, well most of Asia.
Seems like everybody has a degree these days and those who hold real degrees have them completely devalued by fakes, lose income and job opportunities that they would otherwise be entitled to but instead the job goes to a liar. Before I had my degree, I was honest with employers and took lesser paying jobs and worked my ass off. 2 jobs plus going to school part time. Seeing all the cheaters and rich kids skate by through college and go on to high-paying jobs... This is beginning to really put a dent in my wallet and crimp my lifestyle that I've spent my entire life working toward. THANKS A**HOLES!!! I HOPE YOU GET LENGTHY PRISON SENTENCES AND HUGE FINES!!!! I'll be in line for your cushy NASA job when you get fired.

Re: HUGE!!! Bogus Diploma Ring Busted
Seriously, has anyone not worked with someone in Thailand holding a fake degree? At my last job, there was a Filipino who claimed to be an American and also claimed to have a Ph.D. in English and the guy could barely string two sentences together. However, he was good at brown-nosing and was therefore put in charge of teaching PE instead of being fired. His teaching method consisted of sitting in a chair and pouting intermingled with the occasional student beating.

Sadly more than a few Muggers, one or two were king great teachers as well, but the rest were a waste of air.
One wonder if any teachers licences will be revoked on the back of this dipmill being exposed?
I know I queried the creds of one teacher at a uni I worked at, when I took it to the boss (a Thai Asst Prof) I got a shut down almost imediately. looking at the wall behind his head was his PhD, from the same dipmill as the dodgy teacher.

Re: HUGE!!! Bogus Diploma Ring Busted
We have a guy working with us claims a Ph.D. in English from an untraceable uni and the guy states on his personal web page (The Biz) he never attended nor ever saw any professors from the uni yet he achieved a pass mark.
He also claims a degree in maths, child physcology, computer studies and philosphy too, indeed a genius.

Re: HUGE!!! Bogus Diploma Ring Busted
Damn, they found me out! Now you all know that my J.D. is a fake!
Seriously, I work with someone who has a diploma that doesn't state the subject area of his degree. It just says he was awarded a bachelor's degree. You don't think that's a phony, do you?

Well apparently the fake school had credential verification and bribed embassies in order to make sure these got past Nasa, the US military, etc. It actually is a pretty big deal because they raked in over $7million and 9,600 people can now be traced down and exposed. All it takes is one per university and that would cover most of the universities in the world...
Anyhow, I think it's a far lesser crime to fake a degree to satisfy an archaic 3rd world government law, but some of these people take it too far and fake MDs, PhDs, oncology, dentistry, etc. I mean a fake MD? Come on! "oops, sorry, I guess those 2 medicines DO interact and kill the patient... hmmm"
Another one that is really bad is when they do it at the university level. A lot of publications at that level are used in daily life and major decisions are made based on it. Especially the books! Come on people! I see loads of books that are nothing but toilet paper, but the author has a PhD? Oh pahleese!
Can you imagine teachers using books for their students which are innaccurate? "Yes kids, 1+1=4... it says so right here in the book!" Obviously nobody is that stupid but I do get tired of books with errors and explaining to students that the author just has a fake degree so don't believe everything they read in their textbook and if their answer disagrees with the answers in the back, it is probably an error on the part of the author and they should double-check with the teacher. It's not like just one or two errors, I see it all over the place, especially with the Engerrish books. ARRRGGHHH!

No I don't. My 2 BS degrees don't state the subject area on the diploma either. Ya, they're real.

Re: HUGE!!! Bogus Diploma Ring Busted
There was a clinical psychologist from the US with a fake diploma mill degree who came to work in Australia.
Within 5 years he rose to be in charge of the entire northern region of the state of Queensland. 5 major government hospital departments were under him and over 20 doctors referring patients to him for approval of their diagnosis' for radical treatment programs like ECT therapy. Several deaths resulted and the fake doc blew the coop. He was employed for over 15 years and nobody ever checked his qualifications.

Re: HUGE!!! Bogus Diploma Ring Busted
Mugwump,
I have worked with and/or hired several people with degrees that, later on, were proven to be fake. I think it's pretty easy to find out if a degree is fake or not. IME most schools/agencies don't want to invest the few dollars/baht it would cost to verify and it bites them on the ass down the road.
Last month I had a guy apply with me who had a "Masters of Ed" from Harvard. I just called up Harvard, told then who I was and they told me what they needed from me, to verify. When I asked the applicant to sign a release from, to send to Harvard, he disappeared.
Personally, I don't think it really matters if someone has a college degree or not, if they are just teaching conversation. I do think a degree is a good thing to have in an EP teacher though. I think it demonstrates the ability to set a goal and reach it and to work in an organized, methodical fashion.
My two cents.
