Maybe is a fine word, Jonny. For some of us though, maybe freedom is a more closely correlated with age.

Time will tell. Speculating is alright tho'.

I think the McVeigh types would be intimidated by NYC, and prefer more familiar surroundings, near which they can drink from a canteen, and piss out a campfire.

Muzzies on the other hand, in the US at least, live, work and play predominately in urban areas, and NYC is a big draw for Islamist terrorists.

Muzzies tried pulling off the first Wold Trade center attack, and muffed it. They do screw things up occasionally, you know.

The "smoke' that the T-shirt ex-Vietnam gu saw before notifying one of New Yorkers finest on horseback .... must have been the fuse, which obviously failed to ignit.

Three propane cannister, two can of gasoline.

    Fireball consuming Times Square?

    Anyway, serious enough.

I'm going with a nutter or had a bone to pick with a local business. Maybe lost his home or sumtin bad.

A Latino pissed off with the Arizona business.

One could speculate till the cows come home.

I guess we'll see pretty soon.

Pressure must certainly be on the authorities responsible.

    ---Update---

    Here we go

BBC News - Failed car bomb was not al-Qaeda plot, says NY mayor

    White male.
When being run out of town, get in front of the crowd and make it appear like a parade.

God you guys are slow to catch up. Haven't you seen the razing of building 8 and the WTC? The jet liner that never flew into the Pentagon? Our loss of freedom soon after? The subsequent lying and spying? The Arizona racial profiling? It's all related. Closer to the truth is Skull and Bones got together with Blackwater and CitiBank and whoever killed JFK and planned out a way to rid us of something that was costing them market shares and who knows what.

Once bitten why aren't you guys twice shy? All these failed attempts are fake. Detonating explosives is not rocket surgery.

A nice slant on the topic JD. You could very well have a point - the xmas day bomber managed to botch his, too, though it should have been a done deal.

could it be that the USA's inner sanctum are playing the terrorism card to the next level? Was the the BP incident a way of pointing out to Americans why drilling for oil within its own territory is not the way to go? Its all rather tantalising!
    The error returned was:

Timely wasn't it? My econ prof used to say all the time, "When you witness an event that makes no sense, think economy. Think, who could have profited from this?"

Compare LA to NYC .. fashion center/financial center. Why doesn't it ever happen in Flint Michigan?

Mayor Mike is always on the feds case to send more money to New York and less to everywhere else.

He obviously figures that any terrorist worthy of the title would consider any other target a complete failure.

    Was it a "fake"

    Absolutely not.

The conspiracy guys always fail to consider the political consequences of doing the inside job and getting ratted out.

Be interesting to see who turns out to be behind this and what the "motive" was.

labelling people is so lazy russ. it allows you to ignore what they say because you belive you already know it. ignorant, doesn't allow you to think around an issue, explore it. doesn't lead to any new ideas and thoughts.

Russ, you're close to honourable mention on the meltdown watch. Political Shamittical. The shadow owners of the USA are so rich and influential we don't even know their names. They were above the law before they were born. Look what happen to Lou Dobbs. The slightest hint of New World Order illegal involvement on his show and he hasn't been see in public since the drive-by.

I think the eagerness of the conspiracy guys tends to correlate pretty closely with the level of discontent and disaffection at any particular period of time.

    Right now there's lots.

I don't jump to conclusions on incidents like this.

There is absolutely nothing in my rational thinking bank that would consider this having a fraction of one hundreth of one percent of having any merit.

Now if you want to talk lizard people, you've got my attention
