Deaths, destruction in Christchurch quake
Deaths, destruction in Christchurch quake | Stuff.co.nz
Our favourite Kiwi poster HappyNZ comes from Christchurch. The city has been plagued by earthquakes and aftershocks since last September...but this one today involves serious loss of life...I hope Happy can check in soon and let us know he is ok.
There are reports flooding in now in the Aussie news.
Multiple deaths mainly from two buses that had buildings collapse on them.
The epicenter was only 2.5 miles from the city and 3.5 miles deep. A much more dangerous quake than the the one that hit last year.
Faith, by itself, isn't a good enough reason to believe. Instead, a belief must be defensible through reason, logic, and evidence.
The idea that faith is somehow justified by the fact that the beliefs cannot be proven is a truly Orwellian position to adopt - not to mention intellectually and ethically dangerous.
Good luck down that way.
First I've heard of it.
Bad news. I've never heard of a Quake in NZ.
One question I have, is why did the NZ currency drop b/c of an earthquake?
CC is a big tourist hub especially for the ski fields, and winter is on it's way so the market is expecting some economic impact from this quake.
and true to form the first offer of help came from Australia...even with all the shite they are still dealing with...we might hate the bastards but they are really okay

and the Mayor expects that to double...
A major search and rescue operation is underway in Christchurch this evening as rescuers work frantically to free people trapped in the quake's rubble. Today's earthquake in Christchurch has claimed at least 65 lives, and scores more are injured in what Prime Minister John Key says "may well be New Zealand's darkest day".
I was watching live TV and saw a friend just after he had been rescued from a building...scary stuff
it sounds pretty bad - happynz and kiwiling OK? - Hopefully the aus gov. will be straight into helping out.
should we send beer and sheep?
many still trapped. not good.
My uncle was in town at the time. Said he saw people being thrown out of buildings to the street below. Not nice.
Hard not to be there at a time like this. But all friends and family seem ok.
RIP to those who didn't make it.
By the way, Internet is out at home. My dad, sister and friends have been calling me for information. Maybe thats why HappyNZ hasn't been in touch yet.
Wife, daughter and I are among the upright.
The central city is stuffed. The iconic Cathedral is down. The CTV building collapsed trapping many. The roads are a mess. We have no water service. Obviously the power is on
