A shooting in Canada has left one dead at a rally for the new Quebec premier. Only one?
MONTREAL – A masked gunman opened fire during a midnight victory rally for Quebec's new premier, killing one person and wounding another. The new premier, Pauline Marois of the separatist Parti Quebecois, was whisked off the stage by guards while giving her speech and uninjured.
It was not clear if the gunman was trying to shoot Marois, whose party favors separation for the French-speaking province from Canada.
Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere identified the gunman only as a 50-year-old man and said he opened fire in the back of the hall while Marois was giving her victory speech to hundreds of supporters at the Metropolis auditorium.
"What's going on?" the newly elected Marois told her security detail as they pulled her off the stage during the celebration of her party's victory in Tuesday's provincial election.
The gunman then fled outside where he set a small fire before he was captured, police said.
Police said they didn't know the gunman's motive. As the suspect was being dragged toward the police cruiser, he was heard shouting in French, "The English are waking up!"
Marois returned to the stage after the shooting and seemed to finish her speech before asking the crowd to peacefully disperse. She left the hall amid a tight cordon of provincial police bodyguards.
The attack shocked Canadians who are not used to such violence at political events.
The suspect was wearing a black ski or balaclava mask and a blue bathrobe over black clothes. Police didn't identify what weapons he had but camera footage showed a pistol and a rifle at the scene. Police said there is no reason to believe there are other suspects.
Emergency medical workers said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person was wounded. A third person was treated for shock. Police didn't identify the victims so it was not clear if any of them were party officials. The crowd was apparently unaware of what happened when Marois was whisked off the stage.

4 more years!
American gun violence crossing the border and gripping cheese heads like a plague.
The sooner Canada accepts statehood the better...
We could all sit outside on banana lounges discussing the best way to rebuild a 4WD transmission and agree, through shared stories of conquests supporting our assertions, that there is no basis to the proposition that those least assured of their persuasions are the first to condemn others for theirs.

For Chrissakes, even Nor-fuckin-way has a gun massacre. Canada can't even keep up with Norway. sheesh!

That's some fine hay making there! It was not clear if the gunman was trying to shoot Marois, whose party favors separation for the French-speaking province from Canada.
Canadian killers and their small fires before the getaway. The gunman then fled outside where he set a small fire before he was captured, police said.
Probably trying to fuel up with some poutine or something.
Marois returned to the stage after the shooting and seemed to finish her speech before asking the crowd to peacefully disperse.
I think this reporter needs gunning down.
America's got their black trenchcoats. Canada's got their blue bathrobes...The suspect was wearing a black ski or balaclava mask and a blue bathrobe over black clothes.
This is just so painful to read. Way to shape the news...Emergency medical workers said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person was wounded. A third person was treated for shock. Police didn't identify the victims so it was not clear if any of them were party officials.
Fuckin' hell. I laughed, IA. That was Cyrillic. Da.
"Take this, brother; may it serve you well."
I'll almost guarantee that the guy is a yank who took the wrong turn at Niagra Falls
In fact I'm considering a Vbookie arrangement.
I have no real proof. Just that gut feeling, eh.
Haven't been for years.
There is no constitutional avenue for separation left.
In any case I'll save my discussion for those more familiar with the Canadian political fauna and flora.
No offense intended Alex.......
I think you know where I'm coming from, eh.
