I feel certain someone is going to tell us it is all a Jewish conspiracy to stop the world eating unclean food.

Where is he when a thread calls for him to comment?

    Why don't Jews eat pork?

    The Torah prohibits cannibalism...

Oops, I thought of a funnier angle...so the price of pork is rising? another reason for Jews to avoid it...

    Whats a Jewish catch 22?

Recipe please. Just bought a slow cooker from Home Pro

    ---Update---

Do you marinade? If so what do you use?

Do these questions sound a bit gay to you?

    From kiwiling's link:
"USDA found that 48 per cent of the nation's corn crop was either poor or very poor.
The department said 47 per cent of the soybean crop was in very poor or poor condition.
They were the worst ratings since the drought of 1988"

Shit, that's a big drop in production. Pork is the new caviare..

    Behold, the Beast!

Sorry about the picture quality. I used my 'phone.

See the size of that bugger. I could feed an army with that. It's heavy as well.

Your questions don't sound 'gay' at all.

Okay - so far I've only done two things in The Beast. I didn't marinade. I was after an old fashioned stew, the sort of thing that sat around for a while when I was a kid and got better every day.

    Beef Stew a la Key

    You will need the following:

    • A chunk of Thai beef from Tesco Lotus.
    • Spuds - a few.
    • Carrots - a couple.
    • Onions - a couple.
    • Stock cube x 2: I used the mushroom ones.
    • Black Pepper.
    • Salt.
    • Garlic cloves - peeled, not sliced or chopped.
    • Beer - for drinking as you prepare.

      .
    Method:

    • Trim the beef of any membrane or weird looking shit. Chop into smaller rough chunks. Chuck it in the pot. Bollocks to all this browning off.
    • Peel spuds and carrots. Chop into chunks Chuck in pot.
    • Onion - roughly chop. Chuck in pot.
    • Cover with stock. (Alternatively - just chuck stock cubes in pot if you can't be arsed mixing up the damn cubes and then cover all debris in pot with water.)
    • Peel the garlic. Chuck in pot.
    • Salt. Pepper. A bit. Don't go mad. You can season later.

      .
Wander off to the fridge, grab a beer and then sit down in front of the telly for a bit before remembering that you were doing something in the kitchen earlier. Wander back into kitchen, get another beer, approach The Beast. Plug it in. Set it on low. Lid on top.

    Return to telly.

    Go to bed.

Wake up to pleasant smell as you come downstairs. Inspect the alchemy that has taken place inside the the slow cooker. Unplug. Go to work. Come home with fresh decent bread rolls from Yamazaki and plug the thing in again.

Return to kitchen repeatedly throughout the evening for refills of stew.

    =================================

I did chuck some red wine in at one stage, but that was just for giggles.

I think we have the same pot..

Thanks for that. Almost identical to my own recipe but I want to try and do a marinade first. I was thinking about stock cubes and maybe some Worcester sauce/Guinness/Yereman mustard n stuff?

I don't have stairs. Will this affect the recipe?

    ---Update---

PS I do slice my garlic..........

So do I, am. So do I. I'm like Pauly in prison when it comes to slicing garlic.

Nah, but I didn't want the garlic giving it large in my stew. Garlic is a yob. Close that fucker down.

With your marinades. Can't go wrong. You'll love it.

I threw the receipt away. But - it wasn't more than a thousand baht. I know this because I had two grand in cash so I could use the fast checkout. And I bought some mozzarella and tomatoes. And some coffee for the office.

I think it was about 850-950 baht.

It will be a winner. Go for it, RH. It's great for feeding Formula 1 fans. This I know (the second dish was a chili con carne using, yes, Thai beef. Glorious, victorious.

That's what I'm on this weekend, now I have a bit of time to myself.

    I think so.

And in some detail as well.

    ---Update---

Food prices set to soar as worst U.S. drought for half a century forces corn farmers to abandon fields the size of Belgium and Luxembourg

    • Drought has destroyed one-sixth of U.S. expected corn crop
    • Soyabean harvest expected to be the worst for five years
    • Food manufacturers warn they will pass on price rises to consumers

    So this is the US.

I think we've had record harvests in Canada this year.

Sounds like the same goes for NZ and other places.

(by the way, thanks for the link Kiwi)

    • Food manufacturers warn they will pass on price rises to consumers

    Well yes,

Would anyone seriously expect them to dig into their own fat pockets to subsidize the shortages?

    This grain story stinks..............

in North America anyway, gasoline prices took a hefty jump over the last month?

    and why?

Because some obscure refinery in L.A. had a fire that shut it down for a few days

    You see...............

    (and I'm not a conspiracy guy )

This has all the hallmarks of a real conspiracy.

World food prices go through the roof because of some USA shortfalls.

    Bullshit.

I would like to see an independent agency have a serious look at those numbers Paully.

I just can't see how it is that we've heard nothing until we get this one disturbing piece of "news"

I have no evidence but I do believe those numbers are wildly exaggerated.

Did food prices take this much of a leap in 1988/89.

    No.

    At least not in Canada.

    ---Update---

    Gentlemen please ............

    ---Update---

Could we get back on topic.

I think there be a different forum for this recipe business.

Let's try to maintain some class here....

    World food crisis.....real or orchestrated?

    And the big question....

If there happens to be a bumper crop worldwide next year, can we expect retail prices to fall

You've done the topic, which was bacon. Now you're onto a world food crisis.

Bacon prices are just a yardstick....

When the common man can't afford a couple of strips of bacon with morning breakfast I predict trouble.

    ---Update---

    Symbolic.

just joking about the slow cooker recipes......

    of course.

I hear you, but here's what the USDA is saying itself on the issue, russ. Would they really get away with wilfully exaggerating the figures? Surely they'd get into trouble for it - wouldn't they?
