I booked at a place called STA, they're an experienced travel agent where RTW (round the world) tickets are concerned.
Flew with BA and Qantas mostly. Great value (900 quid I think??!)
How did I choose my destinations? I sat at my desk in England, looked at the grey sky outside and dreamt of being somewhere else, great places I'd always wanted to visit: NY, LA, Hawaii, Uluru, Great Barrier Reef, HK, Vietnam and Thailand.
I would recommend doing a lot of reading up before you go.
But that's just obsessive little old me. I couldn't imagine pitching up somewhere without knowing loads about it first.
Anyway, where were we? Oh yeah, Melbourne. No, actually we're done with Melbourne. Onwards, to the red centre and Uluru!
Being a bit of a salty old sea dog, I wasn't exactly relishing spending three days in the desert, but I kinda fell in love with the remoteness, tranquility and clean air.
As we flew in, I peered out the window at the endless expanse of red earth and saw the big bastard rock itself in the distance. I hired a shitty, white Mitsibushi and barreled along the near empty road to my hotel..
