I couldn't recommend it more, zehner. And you're in the right place for applying for a visa, too. I got mine in Bangkok (the Islamic Republic's got a very cool brand-new Embassy on Suk 39, If I remember correctly). The fact that you're Irish helps, too (they see the Irish as people oppressed by British Imperialism). The other guys on my course who got their visas in London had to keep going back to the Embassy - and were charged £90 for the privilege. My visa was ready on time, and was completely free. Seems the Thai & Iranian governments have very good relations. Saw lots of Thai products for sale in shops in Tehran, too. I heard recently that the Thai authorities stopped the showing of the movie "Persepolis" at the Bangkok Film Festival, after the Iranian Ambassador complained about it. Weird.
Oh yeah - and if you just go for a week, Thai people can apparently just get a visa on arrival (any longer than a week, and they need to apply for it in Bangkok).

Not "Qormeh Sabzi"? If that's what you mean, then yes, that stuff's delicious; prefer Fesenjoon, though, myself. To be honest, though, you mainly end up eating kebabs in Iran. They're damn good mind you - with rice and butter (sounds weird, but buttered rice is the best thing ever). Where did you have an Iranian flatmate, btw?
Qormeh Sabzi is probably right, I was just trying to write it as he said it.
He made some kebabs with buttered rice as well, they were pretty nice - He used to barbeque at 10pm in the middle of December (UK).
He used to live in the student house I'm living in at the moment. Bit of a sad story actually... He shit himself about having to do military service with Iran and applied for asylum in the UK, he was arrested and deported within 4 days of applying, about 2 months before he was due to sit his A Levels.

The alarm alone cost me two hundred.
That's quite shit. I can think of few worse things to have to do than serve in the Iranian army

This street is actually right next to the British Embassy (tee hee!). It used to be called Winston Churchill Street...
This is at Sa'ad Abad Palace. The legs belong to Reza Shah (the last Shah's father). They chopped the rest of the statue down during the Revolution. Those cars used to belong to the Shah.
This was 22nd Bahman (early February) - the anniversary of the Revolution. All the conservative lot come out and shout "Down with USA", "Down with Israel", "Down with UK", and "Nuclear Energy is Our Inalienable Right". I went along to join in...
On de street wi' m' homies. Ahmadinejad was at the base of that weird arch in the backround (Azadi Tower). Couldn't see him, but they were broadcasting his rantings on the PA system all around us.
Those cheeky monkeys!
The charming Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
A nice, home-made banner. They do put a lot of effort in to it, which is nice to see.
"Down with UK"
Way to go, guys!
Some Iranian food. This is called "Deezee", and it costs about 30 baht. It's a bit like an Irish stew; you drain the sauce off into your bowl and eat it with the bread. Then you mash-up the meat, veg & potatoes, and stuff it in your gob. It's good shit. The drink is called "doogh", and it's a kind of lassi. It ain't all that, to be honest.
A bit of traditional Persian art, next.
I bought these pics in Esfahan; they're shown a bit larger than life size, and they cost about £11 each; fucking cheap for what they are, IMO, as an incredible amount of work goes into them.
And now my last pic...
This was a mural outside the US Embassy. It simply reads: "Iran".

But up with Eire. Love your closing pic as much as all the rest. Great thread, BM. (oops )
