Lovely part of the world. Just got back from a week's camping, walking and kayaking, and a bloody good time was had by all.
We left at 2am from foggy east coast Lowestoft for the journey to the west coast, arriving at Ruda holiday park, Croyde Bay, at 8.30am, passing Stonehenge along the way
After unpacking we headed straight for this clifftop teashop, overlooking Croyde Bay...
...for one of these - a Devonshire cream tea, yum yum

although, after going again the next day, I couldn't face anymore all week - too much clotted cream
our almost empty campsite, which filled up over the weekend and then emptied again
we cooked most of our meals
the great British meal - curry and naan
base camp, £19.50 a night for the pitch...excellent facilities close by
sheep at Baggy Point, looking out to Lundy Island

view of Croyde Bay, with Saunton Sands in the distance

Trivia: Saunton Sands appeared in the Pink Floyd film The Wall as the setting for WW2 beach landings, and in the video for Robbie Williams' Angels.
farmers gathering in the hay near Baggy Point. Hartland peninsula in the background
more sheep 'n fields
glorious view of Woolacombe Bay which, like all the beaches in the area, is popular with surfers...no surf today though
when in Devon one must eat, erm, a Cornish pasty
one for Discus - these guys were going to and fro along the ridge for ages, getting lots of lift
occasionally having your breakfast cooked for you just has to be done, and at £3.95, who's arguing?
mist at Croyde
spent one morning going back to my childhood, exploring rockpools...my dad tells me we went on a family trip to Croyde when I was a wee lad
we cannot escape the Beer Chang empire
but we can choose to drink cider instead... no real ales in this pub, but a choice of nice ciders...here we have a cloudy one and a clear one, both very tasty
carrying all the gear from the campsite to the beach was a bloody pain, particularly in the right shoulder, and especially on the way back, after a couple of hours on the water, which we did every morning and evening
