Sorry for derailing your thread about those nasty Korean cops and thanks for the heads up about them!

It's amazing what the Japanese did to the Chinese when they invaded. Of all the war crimes and atrocities I know about this has got to be one of the worst. I recently had a Chinese national staying with me for a couple of days. When the topic of the Japanese invasion came up he said he got chills after a few minutes and changed the subject.

All the deaths from the nukes the US dropped on Japan pale in comparison to how many would have died had the Allies beat them conventionally by taking the dozens of islands one at a time on the way to Tokyo. After all the casualties in the battle for Okinawa, which also proved that the Japanese would never surrender even when defeat was imminent, Truman looked at projected losses for both sides and then gave the order to use the nukes. IIRC, the Japanese casualty predictions alone were much higher than the number that died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I think history has shown it was the right decision at the time.

Anyways, I'm definitely with Jimbo that nothing about WW2 is a laughing matter.
Were they forced to do that by the Allies in the terms of the surrender agreement?

Well what did you expect the cops to do? They know a bunch of foreigners live there but don't know who hangs out with whom in whose apartment. Would you rather live in America where you're not allowed to open a beer in the park across from your apartment building?

Yes, there is discrimination against foreigners when it comes to drugs. We're more likely to be tested, but, if found with drugs in our possession we're likely just to get deported after a brief confinement. A Korean citizen could expect up to two years in prison.
