Re: Privates,...worth the risk?
Thank you jimbo, phuket bound! I'm grateful the info and wouldn't want to offend anyone by asking in person. Greatly appreciated!

Re: Privates,...worth the risk?
On track with the OP, on the Korean board I use there's someone who just got caught with a private by authorities, a 200,000won fine and notice put in their record of the offense.
Sad thing was, the teacher was ratted out by the student, probably not wanting to pay a big teaching bill.
Always get the money in advance. Always.

200 bucks ain't shit tho, eh' MS?
The question is did he have to do any jail time?....deported?
I'm guessing he was on an F series visa if he only got fined??

^Aye, just get the money when you leave their apartment. None of this "I'll pay you by the month". Fuck that. Get it after each lesson.

Re: Privates,...worth the risk?
Fuck that too Stu. Full month, up front...BEFORE the first lesson.
Cuz if you've got that time "slotted" and they cancel an hour before......how r you going to penalize that??
ALL up front....I don't sell my time in hours....I sell it in blocks. That's how the Korean private tutors do it. Just like a little biz.

Re: Privates,...worth the risk?
No, J...my belief is that it was an E working privates on the side.
Bro, you have an F now, eh? None of these rules, laws, etc. apply to you...work your ass off if you want.
You are right...money up front, none of this 'billing' shit, with a well-understood policy for how much you pay when you cancel.
My policy is: withing 24 hours, you pay full fee.
Outside of 24 hours, you 50%.
All times and hours are agreed on a monthly basis. I have a calendar, they have one. I don't take shit from Koreans that try to screw me on privates...this is a cottage industry here.
Correct me of I'm wrong, Jimbo, but on an F you are your own king. I'll check into this and send you a more detailed PM within the week after I talk to the 'experts'.

I'm just a little tighter at 48 hours. But I've budged when the excuse was so creative that it had to be authentic.
Yeh, I'm on an 'F' and I am easing into the onslaught. Eventually I want to make it my F/T gig, but I need to finish another 9 months at my hogwan. They've been good to me and I don't wanna' burn any bridges in this area, as I think I'll go on living here.
You're your own king in that you aren't risking deportation or jail as far as I know, but you're only truly legal if you are registered with immi. and your local EDU office and (again, as far as I can tell) registering with them is a crock of beans Limitations on hours, prices, locations, etc..etc... Not worth the hassle I guess. I would just register a small biz, and be the only employee, but then you've got even more assholes to please, have to have so much space rented,...blahdeeblah. It's no wonder so many Korean tutors never bother to register.....easier to do it under the table.
