Yes I know that. I guess I have just noticed that any time someone talks about money there is a certain poster who is always ready to point out how much his salary/savings are.
Actually if used as a figure of speech he is being pretty lazy don't ya think? I mean 'life is not so bad after all' does suggest that he had complaints.
AO do you post your salary/savings details as you feel they are impressive? If so, then I have to say that for a degreed 50 something person who has bought a western education ($$$$$) and has donkeys years of experience then you are far from correct.
AA fuck off. I made a comment that I can save here. Yes I have a good life but its taken a long time to get it. If you dont like it well basically fuck yourself. It was not easy paying off the house. Paying off the cars, keeping the kids in good schools. But the wife and I did it. Hard work dude.

You know what really chaps my ass though?
I spent my life savings turning my van into a dog.
The alarm alone cost me two hundred.

Nope, it is a matter of efficiency. I have eaten cereal for breakfast my entire life. Why would I change it now? Most of the Koreans I know eat rice for breakfast every single day. Does it phase them? No! Does eating cereal get boring? Sure, I would love to have a ham and cheese omelet, but I have to go to work man. I am not going to fire up the stove and crack some eggs to have it. Good luck finding ham anyway. With the price of cheddar cheese, you have to be fucking kidding me.
As for lunch, I am at the mercy of what is provided. I get some snacks here and there, but I think it is varied enough.
My dinners are hard to cook for one person. The leftovers can feed me for 2-3 days. I like the food I cook. I think I am a reasonable cook. The food I prepare is quality. I could go out and get some crappy food, and I would probably pay less. I prefer to eat at home. Accordingly, my meals last me 2-3 days. What is the problem with that?
Of course, I am in the biggest f'n rut I have ever been in. Sure, I am down and out, but that doesn't mean a damn thing. It doens't have a damn thing to do with Asia or teaching. A person can have a string of bad luck just as easily in the states.
Make no mistakes, I am very excited to go see my family. I have been gone for over a year. Given my circumstances, wouldn't you be excited to see your friends and family?
I have no regrets about coming to SK. It has been a really cool experience. You would have to walk a mile in my shoes to understand. I love it here. I really do.
As for if things will be better in Thailand, I have no idea. If you were to pack your bags and move to Idaho tomorrow, would things be better? Of course, I think things will be better; otherwise, I wouldn't be doing it. There is a lot that could go wrong. Who gives a damn? Sometimes, you just gotta make a damn decision and face up to the reality of the situation. Ask yourself if you can do it. I have seen people crumble over here. I have also watched people happily succeed. It all comes down to the person you are and what you are going to put into it.
Alright man, this is a bit much. I don't consider myself a failure by an stretch. Most of the people you will meet aren't either. Take what you read on these boards with a grain of salt. It is all to easy to say whatever crap you want on Ajarn, but in reality ... things aren't like they are on an internet forum. Take my word for it.
Check your expectations mate. This shit isn't a holiday. It is real work. If you want to have an adventure then put a couple of grand in the bank and have your vacation. Otherwise, throw your chips in, book your damn ticket and quit thinking about it. If you have any sense, you will be able to sort it out quickly. You might not get the best deal in town, but you will figure it out quickly enough.
It seems it is time for you to sink or swim. Perhaps, you have have had one too many beers. It is 5:00 am here in Korea and I drink a fair amount. I am inclined to think you aren't all that drunk, but second guessing yourself. Do you have the balls to do what it takes? That is the only question you need to ask yourself becuase without having your feet in the big mango, your dream is going to remain just that ........

It's true, nothing can compete when it comes to the value of cereal (by value, I mean the ratio of quality-time needed to prepare).
Although, I never complain when my wife serves up some Caw-tum / Moo Gra-tiem / Omelette / Phad Phak /
Kra-pow to kick off the day.
I just think a change now and then might give your morale a boost.

Notes: Well, it has been a hell of a weekend. I put back serious amounts of beer. It wasn't all that exciting. In reality, I went to pick up a book on pronunciation from a co-worker in a place that requires me to take a bus. I sat with her for about an hour and talked about life. I had a Budweiser during this conversation. I learned a lot too. I then stopped off at a bar on the way to the bus stop and made my lesson plans for the next couple of weeks. The buses have two different routes to get me home, so I just got on the first one. I ended up getting off near the beach, and I decided to go have a beer at my favorite bar. However, it was closed, so I wandered from bar to bar drinking. I met a nice Korean man who actually spoke some English. I ended up at the minimart having a can outside talking with some folks. Eventually, I decided I was too drunk to walk home, so I got in a cab.
Things got more dramatic when I got home, but I will leave my interpersonal relationships out of this thread.
