It seems my exit plan may have been dealt a severe blow. I had been planning to relocate to UAE in August with my Thai girlfriend. I've been in contact with a school there for some time, but have just been informed that it is illegal to live with an unmarried partner. The school now says that if I insist on bringing my gf, they cannot hire me.
I had been under the impression that it was possible for foreigners to live with an unmarried partner, if the details of the relationship were kept somewhat discrete.
Is there truly no way around this? I won't be going without my gf for certain.
Get married.![]()

^ Out of the question, I'm afraid. This isn't the 12th century after all.
No...or that is what I was told when I first asked about it
Taking your Thai g/f away from LOS is never simple...in more ways than one...but I have done it and wouldn't change anything...except perhaps for having thought more of the advantages of saying in Thailand.
Contact an immigration attorney and see if you can find a loophole. Maybe if your thai gf was classified as a cook or valet or something like that.
The best laid plans of mice and men...this news produces a new challenge to you and your thai gf, perhaps a different commitment or place for you to teach. Maybe that job in the UAE just wasn't for you...
Please keep the forum informed of developments.
why would anyone take a thai girl away from her mom ?
Once is great.
Twice is too much.

Get a false marriage certificate
That thought crossed my mind, but it seems like it might be a little dangerous. Wouldn't want to be imprisoned on "moral" grounds in a nation with Islamic law...
That sounds like a reasonable plan. I know there are lots of Asians working in UAE in those kinds of service positions.

I live in Indonesia, worlds largest islamic population, many foreigners (infidels) take this option so can live with their sweethearts.
leave her.
...some rather ignorant advice folded into the one good suggestion...
...marry her if there is married housing available. She might be able to accompany you...
...leave her in Thailand and visit regularly, bringing cash and gifts to ease the pain of separation...
...the Emiratis are rightly dubious of single women coming to stay: not only Thais, but Russians, Brits, Ukrainians, Poles, Bulgarians...etc. There is an enormous need for prostitutes and local pimps have a difficult time keeping up with the demand.
if this news was unforeseen then i doubt the ME is for you -- far too many surprises to befall you. its not worth going the fake route. how long you been with the girl? she is thai afterall, so youve got an 80% chance of not being together in a year anyway.
^ agreeed.
This is true.
It is illegal and not worth the risk to employers.
I wouldn't advise this.
You could get legally married at an amphoe in Thailand for a big 60 baht. If she's "The One" then just do this. You need to get the Thai marriage certificate translated into English, then once you're here in the UAE, you get it notarised and she gets her residency visa based on marriage.
This would be very difficult.
His girlfriend must be an adult then, not a child.
I can't find it now, but someone mentioned you coming here alone and going back to Thailand for vacations. This would be a godd test of your relationship. My husband came here a year before I did. I survived without him for that time.![]()
