Did you take the job? And, if so, can you tell us the company name?
---Update---
I heard the pay was 85,000 grand a year!! What's with this 3000 a month crap? Now, I heard that from two teachers with credentials who taught at oil magnet kids. I've got an M.A. two credentials, Elementary and Secondary English. Does that get me anything?
I have been offered a job in Saudi. A place called Tabuk. The salary is 13,800 Sr. A British international school. Thinking of taking it. However still have a few other interviews to do before I definitely make my mind up. Anyone heard of this place. I do believe it's in the north of the country. The savings potential might make it worth it. It's for a 1 year contract that can be renewed.
...the salary is reasonable, but Tabuk is rather isolated...there are Red Sea and desert adventures to be had, but little to spend your money on...you should be able to save at least, SR10,000 a month for 11 months (one month will go for appliances, settling in, etc unless, of course, these are already supplied)...in your second year, think of a trip to Cairo and weekends in Bahrain/Dubai...but always keep an eye on savings: there is no other reason to be in Saudi...
1650 pounds a month saving? Living in that shit hole?![]()
This is it... The apocalypse.
...financially speaking, better to work in a place where stagnation is rewarded...the swamp doesn't offer that...
Really? Id rather live in the "swamp", work harder and save 50k (Baht) a month with 35k a month to spend than SA saving that. Man... Im in the UK ATM and Ive saved 1300 pound a month over the past 3 months and had a life as well. Surely the M.E shouldnt be tolerated for less that a few grand a month?
...of course, the greater the compensation, the better...salaries vary widely in Saudi...it's up to individuals to decide what's enough and what isn't...as an aside, if you parachute into the swamp with the objective to save money by working hard, you must have very low expectations of what your effort is worth and an enormous capacity for work...and your harness may chafe in the humidity...
Its the balance between saving and quality of life that Thailand offers that is good IMO. Working hard is also subjective. 30 contact hours a week is a very heavy work load for some. I never found it to be a problem... I still had a very healthy (Or unhealthy) social life.
Thank you Tomcat, The salary does seem reasonable. Basically my plans are to save some cash before making it back to Thailand in the future. The accommodation is on a compund and comes with basic appliances and furnishings. I may have to but an Xbox to entertain me in the evenings. The contract starts on 26th August, then 3 weeks off at Crimo, then back in the New year and continue till near the end of June. I plan to go to Thailand for the Summer months (July, August). This will be paid. Savings are my main motive.
Do you know what the requirments for CRB checks are. I have them for the UK already.
...I never needed anything like that for Saudi, but I did need one for Qatar...
