That does surprise me a bit because the Thai ones would be cheaper but since most would have been trained by the military, maybe they get enough out of the service not to work. Same kind of thing happens with pilots in fact a lot Thais working in aviation have a military background. They working on the rigs? Anyhow my original contention still stands, falang with specialised expertise are going to find positions, if there is demand for them. Bar manager/supervisor is not an area with a highly specialised expertise is it?

Down on Phi Phi whities are employed as bar 'PR' folks. Mostly women, poorly paid and definitely illegal, but there is a cottage industry in employing white folks to do this. Apparently the Thais are just crap at the job so the big noses are employed. Crap job done by drunk white girls, wearing very little, and all treating it like Ibiza. Not a great sight.

DJ-ing is a bit of a novelty industry if you flitter between two hour slots at different clubs on different weekends, and you can get away with it, as they think farangs are experts in this field.

When I was employed by the Novotel at CM2, I had to get the full work permit thing done, and it took about a month at quite an expense. Then I got fired about six weeks later.
