We can marry at any time in Canada. But he can't even visit the U.S. - even if we're married.

Vancouver was ridiculously expensive. They even tax postage stamps! That's so weird. The post office is an agency of the government, right? Why the hell are they taxing people?

Also, there seemed to be a multitude of government employees.

I feel ya, expat. Taxes are ridiculously high..I don't think we are charged tax on postage here. What is the % of sales tax in Van?

I can't believe that he can't visit the U.S if you are married in Canada..this seems very strange.

Tax was about 5%-6% on postage, I think.

I don't remember sales tax, except that there was municipal plus provincial tax.

The bf is Thai and a Canadian permanent resident (same as green card holder), but he can't visit the U.S. It's a double standard. U.S. green card holders can visit Canada, but those in Canada can't visit the U.S. Very unfair.

If he could legally visit the U.S., that would solve everything. He could spend winters in California and summers in Vancouver. Oh well.
