Not Teaching In Thailand Life beyond teaching in Thailand, whether still living in LOS and making a living by other means, or living in another country, teaching or otherwise. Plus the practicalities of visas and migration there.

Re: Yes, there IS life after Thailand
The prospect of going through Mike's experience is precisely what sent me to the Middle East: a future that involved a mix of language school/uni ESL programs/ privates, etc in hope of earning enough money to afford...a bus ride. Maybe, after years of working and saving... a cheap car, a cheap apartment, cheap furniture.
Without family money (or the hope thereof), ESL (that is, teaching English in your own country), is, in many cases, a housewife's job to supplement hubby's earnings....and it would be wonderful if hubby were an aeronautical engineer.
A life free of scrounging is a worthy goal.

Great post Mike. What is the most common nationality you are teaching.?
Do you get to watch the Broncos?

Re: Yes, there IS life after Thailand
Thought it was a reasonable comment myself. If you had any kind of decent life before you came to Thailand, why would you imagine there wasn't the possibility of one after you left?

Stay away long enough and you will be treated as though you had no life before Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter. I can't speak for other countries but the returning expat problem is quite pronounced in Australia, there are highly qualified Aussies in London and New York who would love to come back, even for a cut in earnings, but not to start back at square one. No wonder there are a million of us O/S

Re: Yes, there IS life after Thailand
It's all good. I had a good career before we decided to rack off OS and do somehting different.
We're not back here just for the money but also for personal reasons.
the money is OK and will do for the moment.
No, I can't see any work like this in Urunga.
Go the Broncos! (And the Maroons had a HUGE win over NSW).

Re: Yes, there IS life after Thailand
Thanks for this post. I haven't even left for Thailand yet (Aug 11th!)... but I'm already kind of thinking about my own re-entry plan. Of course I have a life here... but I'm having to give up a lot of it - job, car, home, friends, my bowling team , etc. It is reassuring that after a few years abroad it's not too hard to get back into the swing of things.

Re: Yes, there IS life after Thailand
Store the car, rent out the home, get your friends on Skype, you can bowl in Bangkok - you're set!
Thailand is not exactly the end of the universe, you know, its moderately civilised (most of the time).
