Cream, I am guessing the change involves divorce. I could be wrong.

Wouldn't be the first ajarn skipping alimony payments. Note that if you owe child support, the US Government can withhold issuing you a new passport when the time comes to renew. FYI.

Re: This is my plan, any ideas?

I like to think the best of people mate, but the guy is not exactly suitable for a non degreed newbie job in Thailand. I have a nice job w/o a degree because of contacts and ability, if I had a kid or anyone that depended on me, this is the last place I'd come.

Re: This is my plan, any ideas?

The part about had four kids makes them sound grown up to me. Thailand can be a place to escape to after a divorce. A new start.

But I agree, not the best place to start for a newbie without a degree and family and kids to support. Amazingly there are a few who are doing it though Cream.

Re: This is my plan, any ideas?

Clarification: Yes divorced. All kids out of the coop and paid for, no allimony or child support. She already has it all! I have a group of friends from Thailand in the states and they have really sparked my interest. Looking for a change and continue to do what I set out to do 25 years ago Teach! I appreciate the trying to find the best in a person comment. I would like to teach in a smaller town, so with that said, can I find a job making 20-30,000 baht no degree but of a lot of teaching kids on different levels. it appears to be a lot of expert advice on this forum.

Perhaps. Still it would be better if you got the degree before you came over here. There are some alternatives but they are not great. Didn't you say you needed 3 semesters to complete?

That said, it might be possible to work up country at a school that would accept a non-degreed person. There seems to be is a 2 year window to get the degree. It would be with courses from a Thai Teacher's College.

What kind of finances do you have.? If you have some bucks, then you might be able to look around for work. If you arrive without anything, if the job doesn't materialize, then what?

There are already far too many farangs in immigration prison or worse.

So what would you need?

Criminal Background check.
Original Transcripts of all college work.

It will be difficult for you to get visa extensions and the life of a "visa runner" is not a particularly good one in my opinion.

You will have difficulty getting work permits without the original degree.

Cambodia might be easier paper chase wise. (But it is a more difficult country to adjust too.)

It also depends a lot on how you look, how you present yourself, your speech, how you write. Good luck.

Have you ever lived on 20,000 baht here for a month?

Hard with western tastes.

Can you really do sticky rice and grilled chicken and a bit of som tam in Issan, living in a Thai stilt house, with the nearest English speaking farang, about 15Km away (and he is a drunk German)while sleeping under a mosquito net with a ceiling fan? Things to ponder.

Take a look at this thread too:

Re: This is my plan, any ideas?

I have not lived on 20,000 but I have around 20,000usd as a back up. She did not get it all!! I read the other thread, thanks. I am a people person, and yes, you know all Americans think they are good looking HA. The challenge really intrigues me. I have read that the quality of teachers is not very good there but I know quite a few here with all the paper and I would not want them to teach my kids. Thanks for the imput.

I beg your pardon...

I've always seen it written "the reasons are manyfold" and obviously that can't be correct as you'd need an adj instead of adv there.

But since I have a degree, I can defend myself by saying this:
An adjective usually precedes the noun or the pronoun which it modifies.
And this:
Unlike an adjective, an adverb can be found in various places within the sentence.

Have things changed in the last year?

I taught in Thailand in 2006 and last year when I put feelers out things were still the same - you can teach kindergarten legally without a degree. I had a work permit and visa - no visa runs. NO DEGREE. Has this changed?

And I had a dependant, and we survived quite nicely on my over 30k salary.

Though, I can't imagine many men wanting to teach kindergarten...
