The duration of the programmes is either one, or in most cases, two years. Courses generally start in late August and finish in the beginning of June. The programmes consist of course work followed by a degree project. The number of students accepted to each programme is limited.
The master's programmes are currently free of charge.
Information regarding credit and grading system, course descriptions, examinations, academic calendar etc. can be found via the link below.
Degrees awarded

Students who have successfully completed a two-year Master's programme (120 ECTS) will be awarded a "Teknologie masterexamen", translated into English as "Degree of Master of Science (two years)".
Students who have successfully completed a one-year Master's programme (60 ECTS) will be awarded a "Teknologie magisterexamen", translated into English as "Degree of Master of Science (one year)".
Please note that these degrees do not correspond to the Swedish degree "Civilingenjör".
Erasmus Mundus master's programmes

Erasmus Mundus is an EU programme for university cooperation at Master’s level. The Erasmus Mundus master's programmes include compulsory mobility, which means that the students study in at least two European countries. KTH participates in five Erasmus Mundus programmes.

Re: Masters Degrees in English offered free in Sweden

A limited number of scholarships are available each year from the following organisations:
  • the Swedish Institute (SI) - for students from all over the world (including the Guest Scholarship Programme, the Visby Programme and the Master in Sweden for Eastern Europe).
Please study the information given at the homepage of SI carefully! The scholarships mentioned above should be applied for on the KTH application form for master's programmes. The programmes nominate scholarship candidates to the Swedish Institute. Please note that the number of scholarships is very limited and competition is fierce.
Living costs

All students must be able to cover personal living expenses, cost of literature, insurance, student union fee (approx 400 SEK/year), etc. in Sweden.
A financial statement will be required when applying for a student visa/residence permit at the Swedish Migration Board. The students should show they will have a minimum of SEK 7 300/month at their own disposal for the entire study period. Depending on costs for housing, food and leisure a typical student budget for one month in Stockholm would be (all costs in SEK):
Accommodation: 2 000-4 000
Food: 2 000
Local travel: 620 per month (30-day card)
Clothing, hobby/leisure: 450
Student Union fee: 60
Other (phone, insurance, hygiene etc): 1 700
Total, approximately: 6 830 - 8 830
In February 2008: USD 1 = 6,70 SEK; EUR 1 = 9,30 SEK (approximately).
Students should not bring cheques to Sweden, as international cheques will not be accepted by Swedish banks
Student loans

KTH is accredited by the following bodies for student loans:
  • UK: Learning and Skills Council: British Career Development Loan
  • Canada: British Columbia Student Assistance Program (BCSAP)
