Hi, I am a Dj and get regular gigs no problem in Canada. I play a unique style of Electro swing that works great after a good jazz band or blues type deal, or in the type of place that would host them (not so much the "rave" type scene)
I know work permits are tricky, that is no my question at all...
Its a culture and taste question, supply and demand and willingness for bars and clubs to pay ..
Is it difficult for a westerner to get DJ gigs, any more than you would in the west ?
If their is any gigging dj's out there that could share their experience about Thailand in this regard I would love to hear from you.
As far as debating the merits of djs vs live music, cultural sensitivity in Thailand with "techno" or any of that typical junk I got on the lonely planet, I would like to stay on topic and avoid that.
Thanks.
DJ Pat would be the best person to answer this.
Generally speaking you will find it a lot harder to come by than the west. Knew a guy that had a regular spot at a large gay club in Bangkok. 4 Nights a week, and he got something like 28k a month. Having all your own gear would make it easier.
This is it... The apocalypse.
In a gay club, 4 days DJing is more preferable than working the whole week...
Note for the dimensionally retarded: 6" = 150 mm

In BKK there are options, but I thought that you were planning on CM.
There aren't any options for CM. You will be arrested and deported faster than you can blink your eyes. Read Thai visa a little about the crackdown on foreigners and any music scene.
If they lighten up, there are few clubs in CM that look for fresh talent, but I am not sure that you get the scene over here at all.
