hi guys, how difficult is to land a job as fitness instructor / personal trainer in bkk? well, i haven't got certified yet, but im planning to, soon (either there or in my country). thanks a lot, jiri
Jiri,
Very, though not impossible. My boyfriend is a PT and Physio though his search for work here was not easy.
When you consider that you would only really be able to instruct English speakers, that rules out quite a lot of the market. There are already several fitness companies targeting expats and your best bet would be to contact them directly. However, if you are not yet qualified, it would be very difficult to get in with them as you will be able to see from the staff profiles, most staff are heavily qualified and have several years experience.
I suggest taking a look at their profiles and note the steps you would need to take to be able to even interview for a position here.
I don't know which is your home country, but in the UK PT qualification is quite a long process, and your OP sounds like a very offhand decision. Perhaps spend a little bit of time researching the companies in the city, and also the Muay Thai gyms in the touristy areas, sometimes they have a fitness instructor in addition to their boxing trainers, though again, these are generally well experienced individuals and due to the location of these positions, they are few and far between and incredibly competitive.
