So basically nine out of twelve teachers who have posted on Thai Visa see this as positive? Thanks for the linky and all garro, but that statistic, seriously, is in the realm of the utterly meaningless.
But still interesting (I guess).
Yea. start a poll here. in fact, start a petition.

p.s. ...not meant to come across personally there garro. Keep us posted.

I think that it might have more credibility if you regular Ajahn posters start a poll.

alright. i'll start a thread on it
I had a conversation with my HoD today. She said don't worry about it. Then she proceeded to tell me a story about how there was a similar law enacted 5 years ago requiring all Thai teachers to have Education credits. She said the plan failed badly. It was never really enforced properly, and nothing much came of it in the end.

On 8, 9 and 10 December 2007, something like 400-600 Thai nationals nationwide, who want to be teachers, did the four tests of the Teachers' Council of Thailand.Originally Posted by Hamster

Every once in a while there is a test for Thais who want to be teachers. The tests are held in different provinces and are taken by, usually, people who teach already - so called special teachers, some of them have five-year contracts with the gov.Originally Posted by Stamp
It is normal and have been around for a long time.
How do I know? My wife is a government teacher.
Why some people have to take it and some don't?
Simply, to become a teacher (not sure now but during "Taksin") you had to have a certain GPA to become a teacher straight after the uni. Those who did not meet the requirements simply became special teachers (public schools) or went to private schools.
Hey everyone, I got my Teachers License today ( a photocopy anyways) finally !!, I applied back in Nov' 06.
So don't despair, you might get yours soon I hope, I guess there was a huge backlog
Is it a permanent or temporary one?
Not sure its all in Thai will ask someone tomorow to check, there was only one visible date on it, I guess its a datye of issue the 28 of month 2549.Thats back when I applied for it. but waited well over a year to recieve it
The hosts (TCT-employees) of the test facility told me that this was the first test from The Teacher's Council of Thailand nationwide for as well the Thai teachers and foreign teachers. Hasn't happen before.Originally Posted by kempos
But, of course, they could be wrong.

Thanks Stamp,
I just want to you guys a bit of positive news![]()
What's the implication you're trying to spell out? I've seen a temporary one, and there's no restrictions. The recipient was told that the permanent license would be issued in 3-4 months, when the board meets. It's not a waiver letter, or receipt of application.Originally Posted by kempos

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
Just asking.Originally Posted by av8tor
And are we talking here about the same licenses? There is one issued by MoE, which has been around for a long time - apparently for private schools only (I have been working for a gov. school for some time and never had one).
Now, there is another License issued by the Teachers' Council which popped out about 2 years ago.
Are they the same?
Cheers
Yeh, you're right. I'm not that far but perhaps this is positive news too.Originally Posted by Fat Bastard
