Hi every one
If I was a new arrival I would see the” TL obtaining” as a big hurdle to get over, before you even figure out how the rest of “the have to do’s.” If a school hires you, a “letter of intent for employment” is all that is required to obtain your visa requirement, work permit and teachers license. The school can and should apply for you, it costs 500bt end of story, just make this clear to the school before you start. If you are working or want to work for a teacher placement agency, then you must demand that they arrange this for you with the school, again before you start the job. It’s that simple really, Thailand is changing but it will take some more time to feel it. Give the new government some time and I am sure things will settle down in the rule making departments.
Cheers

Think we're all talking about a new license. The private schools all had some kind of license book. And gov schools had some kind of authorization letter from the local MoE. It's neither one of those. Everyone who paid their 500 baht last year should have a letter of receipt of application (actually they were sent to the schools).Originally Posted by kempos
According to the law that this is all based on, the license is granted/approved by the Teachers Council Board, which includes the minister of Ed. Since that's something that doesn't meet frequently, I'm guessing that the minions check over the paperwork, grant or deny, and notify the applicant and school. Then when the board meets they rubber-stamp the prepared list of "approveds" and the permanent license will be issued and sent to the school where you were working when you applied.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

you still actually believe there's rhyme or reason in thai bureacracy?
they're making that shit up as they go along, and no two offices follow the same pattern.
"so please show no pity as we come up from the ground, and please remember as you kill us and cut us down that time will not wash clean the bloody face of history, and someone will breathe here again and they will hate you for what you leave." m.g.
Ah, welcome to Thailand.Originally Posted by Hamster

My wife works for the government, and as far as she has been able to find out, I have up to 3 years from now to get that teaching certificate. She was told that a letter from my boss, and a contract are enough to keep teaching. She says they are trying to be serious about this, this time.
When my school found out about the mandatory teaching certificate, they sent a letter to the education office responsible for our district. The Governor signs it, saying that you have 3 years take the course, take the test, and get your certificate. Apparently this is only good for teachers who were working BEFORE June of 2007. With that paper, I can get my visa (Non-O family) and work permit with no problem.
As always, please remember we are in Thailand, and just about any problem can be solved by one way or the other.

I can't see what they want to do happening, it will be forgot about soon and everything will go on the same as it has for the last how ever many years.
I suspect it WILL happen.Originally Posted by OEG

Why? If this wasn't Thailand i would say the same but it's Thailand and Thais like to change things over and over again, or just forget about things.Originally Posted by WhatsGrammar?

That's not how it happens where I'm at. Three different offices, each with their own requirements, with some overlap. And now, the new stuff.
As usual - different province, different rules. Sometimes, different Somchai, different rules.Originally Posted by TerryLH
When are we going to see the same rule followed by everybody?
You have to either accept it or leave the country :-(
IMO, you will never know what you need until you apply yourself. What worked for your friend will not necessarily work for you :-(
Terry:H, Where does this stupid, newbie, quote, come from? Who wrote this? Which post number? I'm lost (as usual).Originally Posted by TerryLH

I have been here for 7 weeks now, teaching part time and ad hoc, in a high school, and a language school. No TL has been asked for, and no WP. When I ask about how I get these, there is just a smirk!
