    Re: Teachers' License

Just been told here we have to do it or our TL's will be revoked.

Gotta do it in the next 2 weeks at a cost of 3500B. The school haven't told us if they will pay it. Gonna be a weekend course we presume.

I look forward to learning how to kiss Pooh Yai ass effectively, drive like a ostrich on yaba and get the best bargains in gold shops.

Please make sure that this one is accredited by The Teachers' Council of Thailand. Currently they are promoting the Suan Dusit Course (8,000 THB) on their website.

Sorry for the weird signs, but it's their website.

    Re: Teachers' License

I just went back to a previous TL thread and found the list of schools in Bangkok which were offering the TL 'Culture course':

    Ratchapat Jankesem,
    Ratchapat Dusit,
    Ratachpat Rangsit,
    Assumption College
    Nanachat International University.

The list was written in Thai, so the English spelling of their names may be different from mine. This list is a few months old, so there may have been changes.

The price for the course varied from 3,500b to about 10,000b.

No doubt some tips on the application of whitening cream and eye shadow as well.

Anyway, from a personal perspective I should be in a position to avoid everything, but one never knows in Thailand.

    Re: Teachers' License

I'm not sure how many out there that this may apply to, but last year when they were collecting the 500B for teachers re the Thai culture course, the school I was at asked for my original Thai TL. I had held a TL since 2001 although I had worked in a few different schools. They informed me that I was exempt from doing the course because I had held my TL prior to 2003. I was led to understand that the school paid the 500B for other teachers but were not required to pay for myself or one other long time TL holder on staff.

I'm retired now and therefore don't need to face it anyway, but I can imagine that it is not having a pleasing effect on staffrooms at many schools. I feel for you guys and I hope your schools give you financial support re course expenses. While the wealthy international schools can afford it, and probably will pay for their teachers, the teachers from poorer schools, on lower incomes may have to meet the expenses themselves.

LDMA you are starting to write like a sanctimonious I know better than thou person. Be careful of your thoughts, careful of your written words and your feelings towards the LOS because they may come back to haunt you. I hope your lovely daughter is good at dealing with the children of Eastern European Peasants, because if you haven't got a stink load of cash, that's the type of child she'll be growing up with in the UK and groing to school with.

Why are thai-made sites have the worst, fucked-up layouts? And where's the "English Language" button? Teacher's Council my fucking arse. These dumbmotherfuckers trying to push their weight around yet they can't organise an English translation of their pay-us-now site?

    Fuckin hypocrites.

If they're so bent on quality education, then why the fuck are we still forced to pass fucktarded losers when they haven't done enough work to make the grade?

This is a fucking business scam. Nothing more.

    BGood,

Thanks for your contribution on this topic. I do remember that somewhere in 2006 a rule came up that foreign teachers with a teacher license prior to the (informal) installation of the Teachers Council of Thailand (2003) were exempted of any course or whatever.

I cannot find that (written) rule anymore. Probably because it isn't applicable anymore. Why? Because they all left already or retired.

BG, you're around some time. This all fits government policy since 1999. Upcountry, poor schools will not have foreign teachers anymore. It fits the policy to eliminate small schools. According to MOE, there are too many small schools, where educaton stays behind and where no effort is made to improve. Take away the foreigner (the fun and joy) and it's all gone. Especially since several provinces get their budget from the Provincial Administrative Organisations instead of MOE. That's policy for 9 years already.

This is becoming another discussion. So, time to stop.

At my school, the section I am in has about half who have been here, with TLs, since before 2003. I am sure that there are many others in the same position, so it certainly isn't a moot issue.

bit harsh about the east europeans! although in the east end I am the only englishman left!

Was helping a student find a school for her 3 year old - she wanted a school with native english speakers. Needless to say she nearly fainted when she saw most London schols have 60-80% TESOL students (either Asian or East European)

If yoy want to have a good education for a child in English DONT come to London!

And this TL course nonsense. 10,000 baht to be told not to slap a monk on the head???
