Thanks for the information. I'm trying to get an idea of all the hoops I have to jump through before I come.
"My school seems to be under the impression that we don't have to do the culture course but we do have to the TCT tests."
I don't think that is your schools impression. I think it's your immediate supervisors impression, which in this case is not the same as the bosses.
Jamie P,
No matter WHAT our level of education is or the subject it is in we ALL have to take the 20 hour Thai Culture, Language and Professional Ethics Course, no escape! The 4 part exam can only be taken by people who possess a bachelor degree in something other than Education.

My boss was one of the two teachers in Thailand who passed the TCT tests in April. Apart from seeing the results online, he has heard nothing more about it. No official notification, no certificate, nothing! I think Surreal was the other person that passed. Surreal, have you heard anything?
Posted via Mobile Device I am still waiting for the results of the December 2007 tests. I did pass Section 1, As I wrote in other threads, the TCT has not only problems in enforcing the requirements and issuing teacher licenses. They also have problems in managing the test results.

Just seen this... very interesting stats...
So, under current 'rules'* , in about a year's time Thailand will have a pool of 'legally working'* foreign teachers consisting of:
All teachers with B. Ed degrees +
All teachers who have completed the bridging course at Ramkamhaeng etc +
All teachers who have sat and passed all 4 TCT tests
= < 500 (??)
Sounds like the MoE has in operation another successful policy delivering quality education to the school children of Thailand....(very slooooow clapping).
Why is it that Thai officialdom can't see foreign teachers who want to work and teach here as an asset to be cherished and developed, rather than as a problem to be solved?**
( Yes, I know there are many drunken, boorish, self-centred, debauched foreigners here working as 'teachers'. Thanks a lot, those guys.)
* quote marks because we all know those words have rather flexible meanings here in LoS
**Rhetorical question, but really, why not?
Just another bottom feeder...
I'm afraid you're mistaken. This will apply to all teachers, with the exception of those who work in tertiary education.Originally Posted by Chili

Correct.......unless Chili means with a private school, an educational institute that is not governed by the Thai Ministry of Education.

That's a different kettle of fish. Most language schools don't get teachers a wp, so there's no problem.Originally Posted by Chili
