7 days to leave after ending contract?

My contract with my school was originally scheduled to end next year so the visa in my passport expires in September. It is a Non-Imm B. I decided to use the provision to end the contract early and finished working on April 30.

I haven't gotten another contract yet. I have been told that I now have to exit the country within 7 days - May 7. Correct?

If I do need to exit, I will just do the jack golf visa run to Poipet to get a 30 day stamp this time since I have to be back in Bangkok on Monday. I would like to know what my options are for the future though.

What do I need to do to get a multiple entry tourist visa?
Where's the best, closest, easiest place to get one?
    How much do they cost?
How often will I need to exit Thailand if I have one?
How do I get them extended?

    Thanks for the help

After posting the above, I found another thread that says that if I take the WP cancellation receipt to the embassy, they can issue me a letter that I can take to immigration requesting a 60 day extension so I can look for work. Is this true? I'm an American.

If the embassy can do that, I will have to go to both the embassy and immigration tomorrow since the 7 days is Saturday and I don't think immigration is open on Saturday. Will the embassy be able to issue the letter on the same day?

The ol' 7 days start from when they hand it in - not from when you leave (to Immigration or wherever). It might not be handed in for many months... try to ask a 'secretary' (give her a few sticky buns - always works) and I bet she/they won't hand in your paperwork till Sept...

I'm pretty sure the paperwork was turned in yesterday - May 4. Another teacher who also left the school on April 30 arranged to meet the woman who handles the teacher's paperwork at MOL with someone from her new school so they could transfer the work permit. This other teacher told me I will need to get the cancellation receipt from the old school.

If it is 7 days from when the paperwork is turned in, how does immigration expect people to know what day their previous employer turned in the paperwork? The only way I know the day is because another former teacher told me about it.

I guess if it is 7 days from yesterday, that gives me until the 11th. Does anyone know if the embassy can get me an extension?

Doesn't sound good. Hold the sticky buns. That place sounds very tight-arsed. Pretty sure you'll have no choice but to get to the border to give yourself another 4 weeks breathing space until you decide what to do...

You should go to the MoL yourself, to turn in your Work Permit and collect your tor tor 10. Also make sure you get your Teachers license from the school.

If the school hands it in I'm pretty sure you get 14 days, if you do it yourself you get 7 days!

There's a slight chance you can get an extension through your Embassy, but it won't be anywhere near 60 days IMO!

If you have a new employer and they've got their act together you should (with paperwork from them) easily be able to get an extension so they have time to sort your paperwork out.

the school handed mine in and i got 7 days.

however, i did have a new employer and they did have their act together so, with paperwork, got an extension for thirty days. more than long enough to get my new work permit.

How can I find out how many days I have? I was told I could get the WP cancellation receipt from the school. Will the time period be on there?

If I just stay 14 days and then go to Poipet, will they know if it was only 7 and I've overstayed, since the stamp in the passport is good until September?

I don't have a new employer yet. That's why I'm also interested in finding out about the multi-entry tourist visa that I can extend for 90 days.

if you're wondering how long you got left, you're in trouble!

i believe the date you have to be out of the country or get a new visa is stamped in your passport. of course they'll know you overstayed.

The date stamped in my passport is September 30,2005. That's the date the contract was originally scheduled to end. I choose to use the provision in the contract to terminate the contract early.

you should have a new stamp in your passport after your wp was cancelled. seven days after the date of cancellation. seven days including saturday and sunday, not long at all.

I don't have a new stamp in my passport. The school cancelled the WP, not me.

Unwell maybe it's the other way around then? I'm pretty sure that's what our WP lady told us (although maybe it's 7 + & days?).

You need to talk to your school and have them ring the correct people (Imm or Labor Dept.) we can only really guess or advise you as your info is limited, you're going to need to get your TL and tax doodah thingies (as Keeshou said) from them anyway. I seriously doubt anyone here will be able to tell you definitely what to do. I've heard people not worrying about the 7 days and leaving when they're stamped to (in your case 30th September 2005) and having no probs. I also know people that have been shafted on departure.

Communication with your school is the only way to get a definite and a 100% accurate answer IMO!

If in doubt just leave ASAP and get a new Non-imm B or a 30 dayer...is what I'd say, chances are you're going to have to do it sooner or later!

well said, just go and do it. anything else will be flirting with trouble. and as kk said, you need to get your 'tor tor 10' wp cancellation certificate and your tax receipt from your school, so i hope you left amicably!
