    Border Run?

If one obtains a 1 year Non-immigrant B visa AND has a work permit, do you still have to do a border run every 90 days?

My TEFL provider said they can sponsor me for the Visa and I know I will not get the WP until I get a job, but the Visa is a multiple entry.

Ok, I guess the multiple entry part confused me as it says you get 90 days each time you enter.

BTW, I read your blog today and could not agree more!

No border runs but you do have to confirm your address with immigration every 90 days.

The above information is wrong. If you are here on a multi entry visa you must leave every 90 days for a new entry. Only if/when you obtain a one year extension of stay from Immigration can you stay without leaving and only have to make address reports every 90 days. Unless you have an extension of stay stamp with a date beyond 90 days you do have to leave by the date stamped in your passport.

If you have obtained a WP, you just go to immigration and obtain an extension of stay then 90 day reporting (with proof of address).

If you are here on a multi-entry non-im 'B' with no WP, then cross the border every 90 days. If your final border crossing is just prior to the one year expiry, you will still get another 90 days so the visa is good for 15 months in reality. It sounds as if you'll be with WP long before that, but it's handy to know.

    Good luck.

Thanks Mr Bean! This makes since. So as long as you have a WP, you can just report every 90 days and show your apartment lease? I assume you would only need to do a run if your WP has not come through yet?

One more thing. If you have all this and you say leave Thailand to say visit another country on a break; I just need a re-entry stamp right? I would not want to use up one of my 90s if I did not need to.

Funny how everyone says "good luck", LOL

If you leave the country and then come back you will notify your address at Customs on the arrival card, so your next address report is 90 days from your re-entry.

Yes there is. When you have the WP and all the paperwork you go to BKK immigration and get an extension of stay on your active visa. These extensions are then used to keep staying for a year.

The visa I use is from 1993. Once had to get my old passport and show I did have a visa to start the whole yearly thing. I hope lopburi takes pms as he is the on the ball guy.

Wow, 1993!! I just checked today and the one year non-imm B will cost $175, but I understand the extension of stay is only like B1900 ($55).

I am seeing how important it is to find a good school as that WP is IMPORTANT and could get complicated if you change schools.

    Re: Border Run?

If you have a work permit it means that you went to immigration first. At immigration you paid them 1,900B and they stamped your passport with a stamp saying something to the tune of "application of stay is permitted up to....??? and it will be signed by an immigration officer voiding the visa you entered the country with. So, if you had a 1 year B visa and 3 months later got a job with a 1 year contract your new stamp is good for 1 year. You must report to immigration to report in every 90 days or what ever date they stamp your "receipt of notification" for. You can also opt to report by mail, I never have because I am too paranoid it will get lost.

He does not have one that is why he is asking the question.

Then you post this, which is totally unneeded and just muddles the picture. I know you are trying to help but you sure did not. In my lousy opinion anyway.
