Thread: Work Permit Medical Check - Syphilis ??

My new school is finally getting the gears grinding into action for my work permit after 6 weeks (normal enough!). I have to get the usual medical check (i.e take blood pressure .. check that I'm breathing .. OK .. you pass!) but I also have to get a blood check. The blood check is for all things "Syphilis" !!! All the foreign teachers have to get it. (the test that is!)

Is any other school doing this? I mean .. even if I DID have syphilis .. how the hell could I pass it on to my students? "Bonking" them all is the only way I know of.

You would think if they wanted to do a blood test they would check something like HIV or Alcoholism or whatever. How about Swine Flu? Half the students in my school are running around wearing those stupid masks.(for the first hour or so .. then they all come off .. don't blame them!)

What's next? .. Mad Cows Disease?

I love this country .. always good for a laugh!

Surely they should check for hepatitis if they're going to do a blood test.

Even HIV and Hep C would be pretty hard to transmit to a student.Hep C by blood only. HIV via blood and sex.

Yes .. Hep A, B for sure. What about leprosy? The list goes on! .. but syphillis??? What a joke.

Maybe someone high up in "the powers that be" caught syphillis from a Russian whore and and thought "My God !.. ALL Farangs have syphillis!

So the test is not over any concern that I may infect the students (as I would have to "make love" to them all ) .. they are just being considerate of my health and are trying to save my life... hard to believe... so the only other explaination left is that the "powers that be" are ting tong. For fuck's sake THXforNothing .. I've already had it. Clean as a whistle. I'm not complaining about it .. I'm just mystified by it. Idiot. Of all the things they could check for .. this test is just plain fucking stupid.

Lopburi3 says that it's nice to know if you have it or not.Well if someone is so concerned and paranoid about their health .. they can pop into a clinic and get the full gamet of everything tested. Work permit or not.

Honest to God .. if anyone thinks this is a logical step in the work permit process, then they have severe problems with rational thinking and should apply for a job as a public servant in the Thai Government. (Oh .. hang on .. we can't do that can we? .. thank God for that!)

Well, fair enough and back on ya. Yeah, I know its tough sometimes, I have my moments, believe me. I'm here long term and they keep moving the goal posts; so it gets frustrating, but one really needs to keep a proper perspective and that's not always easy.
