Questions about renewing a tourist visa

My two-month tourist visa runs out in about a week, and I have questions about renewing it.

    1. Can one still renew a two-month tourist visa in Bangkok for an additional month? I know this used to be the case. But it's been a long time since I did it.

    2. Where does one go in the immigration office to extend a visa an additional month, assuming it can be done? Lots of changes have happened in that building, or so I've heard.

    3. Does extending an additional month cost anything?

    Thanks for any info.

    1. Yes. Go a few days early (you lose no days) and fill out TM.7, attach 4x6cm photo and pay 1,900 baht for 30 extra days.
    2. Same building and entry. Go to queue desk and tell them what you want. They will provide queue number with counter number to go to and the application form.
    3. 1,900 baht.
As tourist visa from Vientiane is free at present (even two entry) you might consider a visa trip to obtain a new visa if you want to stay longer than 30 more days.

I see. Thanks for the information, Lop. It may be cheaper to go to Laos even if I'm staying only 30 days more. 400 baht for bus ticket x 2....400 baht for one night in Laos...100 baht x 2 for the ride from/to the border. 1400 baht is better than 1900 baht + fare to BKK.

For how much longer is the visa free in V? I'm on my first two month + 1 tourist visa. How many more of these can I get before I have to leave for a while?

There is no limit. Tourist visas are free everywhere until March next year.

Re: Questions about renewing a tourist visa

Yeah, I remembered the Laos visa fee about ten minutes after logging off yesterday. What is the price of that one now? 2000?

I'll probably just go to BKK, extend this current tourist visa, and head to Penang next month if I'm still here. It's a long ride down there, but the Malaysian visa is free.

I've read rumours online that those going to Penang have been turned away for the 2 month + 1 month tourist visa if they're applying for their third or fourth consecutive visa. Any truth to this?

Re: Questions about renewing a tourist visa

A few people I know who have gotten extensions, only got 7 and 15 days in the end! I thought you got 30 days?

I have a triple entry tourist and my second entry is up on Wednesday. Was going to go to immigration on Thursday (wed holiday) but since the visa's are now free I don't want to spend an additional 1,900 for a potential 7 days! just going to keep getting new ones if they keep remaining free(no sign of a work permit on the horizon!)

7 days is the extension for a visa exemption stamp. 30 days is the extension for a tourist visa. Perhaps it is a terminology issue.

Re: Questions about renewing a tourist visa

That's true. One does only get 15 days if he does a mere border run now. But I intended to go into Vientienne and get a new 2 +1 tourist visa if it's free. That would be a better move in the long run if I were staying in Thailand for a while longer. That's why I needed the one-night stay in V.
