I decided to apply for a marriage visa here in Khon Kaen, but I needed to get a 3 month Non-B visa first. I've been across the Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai at least 15 times, but I'd never been to the bridge in Mukdahan before. Two days ago, the wife and I got our papers in order, hopped in the car, dropped the resident ankle-biter off at Grandma's and hit the road.
It took about 3.25 hours to reach The Friendship Bridge just north of Mukdahan and we decided to pay to have the car stored in a covered, secure parking area. The trip was great and all went well at the Thai consulate. If any one wants to know the particulars, feel free to ask. I do want to offer some specific info regarding the return trip.
After crossing the bridge back into Thailand today I was confronted by the tightest security I've ever encountered in Thailand. Immediately after getting passports stamped, everyone was required to have their bags/purses/backpacks x-rayed and I mean everyone. My wife and I passed that surprise test and walked 5 minutes to our car. Just as we neared the vehicle, a man, who I assumed was an employee of the lot, approached us with a smile, wearing a long-sleeved, collared, white shirt.
Just before he SEARCHED OUR BAGS AND CAR I noticed the uniform underneath the shirt! He found nothing afoul and waved us on with a smile.
As some of you may know, the security at Nong Khai is a complete joke. The boys at Mukdahan don't play around. Has anyone else recently experienced this at Mukdahan?
Here's a video from the brief trip. All the footage is from Savannkhet, Laos, except for the waterfall video and photo at the end which is from just outside of Luang Prubang a few years back. A Beer Laos Dark to the first person who can name the band and song in the video (redeemable in KK only!)

Nice song, I had to use GOOGLE so I cheated.

Ain't nothin' wrong with Google. If you're ever in Khon Kaen...
SW, there may have been policy changes lately. Two weeks ago I crossed into Thailand at Tha Li, Loei. Very small crossing, they were
also searching everyones bags.
I like doing the visa at Sav, it so much calmer than Vientiane. Thanks for the video.
good stuff.
what cam and video editor you using?
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix ZS8 (great value for the money) and all editing was done using the iMovie program on a MacBook Pro.

I wasn't sure about the fps, but I found this in numerous places on the web: "DMC-ZS8 can record motion images in high-definition (1280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format)."
Making and editing movies has become a bit of a hobby for me in the absence of concerts and sporting events.

Isn't a Non O the usual marriage based visa?
Terry
O-My-Buddha! A Non-O it was. Thanks for the correction, Terry!
Hey Skywalker,
I just arrived back in Thailand, got the 30 days at the airport, but now I need to get the Marriage visa,
What are the requirements at Sav? that I must have?
And how long will it take?
Thanks in advance.
I've crossed back that way many times and never ever been talked to, let alone searched. Must be a new thing. Just wondering why you didn't take your car across as well? i find it so much easier then relying on the public transport.

Hi
So SAV seems to be quite interesting.
I've always done visas at the Knong Khai Friendship Bridge
I have had no problems there with single entry b and o visas.
I have a couple of examples for the multi o visa regarding bank statement. .
A visa run company who I deal with in Knong Khai regularily offered for me to pay the company 40000 baht 5000 baht to the embassy and my own expenses for two nights.
I would not have to show bank statement. Really !!
A bit dubious but will have my wife really check this situation out.
Another Example;
A friend only had to show 200000 baht in Kuala Lampur he had no problems to get the multi o.
Do you know of or does anyone know of news regarding amounts/bank statement activity in SAV for multi o bank statement .
Cheers
Saknat
